How do I remove the window cranks from my '86? I assume I need to simply pry them off but before I do that, any tips?

Leo. I'm not sure, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought even the 5th gen door handles use the small "c" clip to hold the handle on. See if these pictures help (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album57&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=2) If so, then you can buy the clip remover from any automotive store. Just be carefull, because those clips fly away and get lost real easy.

To be 100% correct, drop Ernie "87ElCamino" a private message. He is on this forum a lot. Or you could drop him an email at ernie@malibunirvana.com. Tell him Jay sent you. He will give you the correct way to take them off without damage.

Yep, yep and yep. That's how they are taken off. The tool is usually a little cheapo thing but works great for removing the clip.

OK thanks, glad I asked. I'll see if a friend of mine has it before I buy, I only need to use it once. I bought some nice billet cranks I want to put in.

The easiest way i have ever seen to remove these clips is with a Red shop towel put it between the door panel and the handle pull up a little and saw it back and forth the clips come right off.

No metal tool to maybe damage the panels.
