All;

Has anyone had any luck removing the chrome(?) trim on the upper door panels? I want to recover the panels but that trim seems to be gluded on with some kind of monster glue! I don't want to break or distort it. Does anyone sell replacement trim? I can't seem to find it online.

Thanks
Jim

The only thing i have ever found for these was the Chrome tape from El Camino parts.

I bought some and tried it but i was not happy.

There are a few here who have just painted them.

I have to decide myself what to do with mine.

Re-finnishing seems easy enough to do but I'd like to remove them, recover the door panels with new vinyl then replace/reglue them on.

I will be doing mine also later on. Can you post what you did and how ?

Sure, I'll take photos along the way. I'm going with a two tone look. Black and red. Just picked up a set of seats out of a Blazer. The seats are gray/black cloth with red horizonal stripes. The car will be red with black stripes. Thought the red-black interior would be a good look.

If you want to go for a two tone look, I would recommend going over the trim with one of the colors. I just finished dyeing my panels on my doors today and they look amazing with the two tone like that (my chrome was flaked off when I bought my car so I just peeled it off). I'll post pictures if I get a chance to take them in between the rain tomorrow

I wasn't planning on dyeing the vinyl although that would be easer, I'm going to replace it. I've already bought the new vinyl.

My panels have two different peices of vinyl that are same color but have a different pattern and are seamed under the plastic crome strip. I started to remove the strip but stopped when I discovered how well it is glued to the orignal vinyl. I don't want to break it taking it off and was hoping someone had some luck with removing them.

Did you try useing a heat gun to gently heat the strip? If your careful and use the proper technique you should be able to heat the vinyl/glue and it will be easier to pull off. Try to avoid getting the plastic trim too hot or you'll distort that and possibly break it. I haven't tried this, it's just a suggestion do with it what you will.
