Thinking of recovering a bench seat (60/40 split) and would like to know if anyone has ever successfully accomplished this?

Also, I looked closely at the seat while it was out of the car...Does anyone know how to seperate the back from the seat base??

On '68-'72 split bench there is a circlip on the outside of the seat. Remove the circlip, remove seat back arm from post, and pull out and then up.

The seat back pivot has a retaining tang that can be "released" by lifting the outside of the seat back and thus pivoting the pivot out of the center block.
