Ok, some of you may think this is a stupid question, but nontheless I just replaced my tired and worn out 305, with a 330hpGM 350c.i. sb, with Vortec heads, hise rise alum intake, headers, 350 trans with shift kit, etc. I'm getting all the kinks worked out right now, and should have it up and running by sat, sun. My question is, will this set up run pretty well as far as acceleration, and top end. I ask this because I'm starting to drag race at the local track. I can't do anything way radical because it's also my daily driver to school. Also, how long should I break in the motor for, before going WOT, and hard accelertion. Any help would be great!!!
Thanks,
Rich

Do you have to pass smog? If yes, please let us know if it passes. I would like to go that route, if it can pass smog tests.

Yeah, here in colorado you have to pass emmisions every 2 years. My dads friend however has a emission test center, so once we get it up and running I'm gonna take it down and get it tested again.

What year is you elky? In colorado if it is over 25 years old it can be licenced as a collector and is then is except from emissons.
It does need to pass the first time you get your plate then as long as you don't let the tag expire you don't need to get a test again. You can pretty much do anything to the car after that.

To answer your question, it should run very well provided you have a decent set of gears in the rear end. It should be a good bracket car.
If it was me, I would run 3.73 gears with a good posi-unit. If you plan on doing a lot of highway miles you might want to use 3.42's.
What carb. are you looking at? A 650 cfm should be adequate.
As far as breaking in the motor, I wouldn't go overboard for the first 400-500 miles. That doesn't mean you have to baby it though.

I've got the 3.73's and a 650cfm Edlebrock. Once I get some more miney I'm gonna get a posi rear end, so both tires smoke!!! HAHA Anyway to answer 67elkybryan's question, it's a 79. The funny thing is I was always seeing those collector plates on complete beaters, and the tag exp in 09, and I was like I gotta gem me some of those, and just started researching it, so you answered my questions!!!
Now, yesterday I got it drivable and put my foot a little into it, and it chugged real bad till about 2100 rpm's, then it took off. My dads friend works on old cars and took a look at it, and said I should get a 2000 rpm torque converter. I asked him why and he said my new engine has a dual pattern or dual something cam, where the intake and exhaust durations overlap. Also my 650cfm carb runs really rich, and i need to jet it down in the range of like .88, or so. Does this sound like the right path to take??? I'm getting the converter for free if thats makes a difference.
Thanks.
