I've got two electrical problems that have me stumped. My brakelights don't work and I have a battery drain. I've checked the fuses and all are ok. I can't find anything on electrical diagrams for the brakelight operation except the switch on the brake pedal. I haven't had a chance to check its operation since I'm recovering from Knee replacement surgery . Can I assume the wire to the switch is hot and depressing the pedal closes the switch lighting the brakelights? Could a bad switch cause a battery drain? TIA

you assume correctly, but there would not be a battery drain unless it stayed closed and the lights remained on. one common source of battery drain is the bad alternator. you may want to disconnect it and if possible check for current accros the disconnected battery terminal with not other lights or accesories on. good luck on the recovery a feel for you Ed ke6bnl

The signal from the brake light switch goes through the turn signal switch. I've seen the turn signal switch go bad causing the brake lights to not work. Do the turn signals work?
Here is the schematic for the brake light circuit (http://elcaminocentral.com/users/elcamino/schematics/brake_flash_turn_lamps.jpg).
