I was looking at purchasing the MSD SB/BB CHevy Ignition Kit, which includes Pro Billet Dist, Blaster 2 Coil, Coil Bracket, MSD 6AL Ignition Box, Superconductor 8.5mm Wires, and Coil Wire. I was also trying to decide on which spark plugs to go with, I was thinking either E3s, Denso Iradium Power (not sure on which heat range) or Bosch Platinum +4s. Which spark plug would be best for my application?(look at sig. for my ride) Also what kind of difference can I expect from swapping out the stock ignition and the current Bosch Platinum +2 plugs?
Thanks, Kyle.

You'll definately see a difference with that ignition, stronger spark through the whole RPM range, etc. As far as spark plugs a dang old regular Autolite will perform as well as any of those high dollar ones, especially with that ignition you're putting in, with normal driving stay with stock heat range, alot of short drives go one range hotter, alot of long hauls one range colder. Best way to tell though is to start out with the stock heat range and drive it for a month, then pull them and check them with a chart to see which way to go if you need to, another reason to go with Autolites if you need to change heat ranges you only lose about a buck and a quarter a piece on the old plugs instead of the three or four bucks each on the high buck plugs.

When you say a diff throughout the whole range, like what kind of diff, like more torque/hp through out the range, a torque/hp increase, or what. And with the ignition Im using the plugs I have in there should run fine? I guess when we swap the ignition Ill go pick up a set 1 range hotter than stock, instead of buying those $9 E3s or $13 Densos. The car isnt gonna see much highway use, or any long trips, she is mainly gonna be driven to take to shows/cruises and an occasion race here or there.

You should always run a regular style plug like AC delco & autolite. Msd does not recommend run any type of platinum plug. Platinums work good for stock systems but are not designed for high powered aftermarket systems. I have been running a Msd-6a for years. You should be pleased.

Allright, but Im still curious as to what kidn of diff Im gonna notice... More hp/tq thruout the rpm range or an increase in hp/tq in general or what

First of all use a regular copper core plug, don't go hotter as you will have a hotter spark you can actually go colder without the problem of fouling. Gap the plugs at .045. Make sure you have 38 degrees of total timing (plug off the vacumn advance) at about 2600-2800rpms. You will notice a more responsive eager engine that starts easier, idles smoother, and has increased fuel mileage.

I have the same MSD set-up you described, but because I have headers the MSD plug wires won't work because of clearance. Too large of a boot will burn on the header. I ended up with Taylor 8mm wires. I also use shorty plugs by Accel because of clearance issues. Cross reference to see what heat range you need. Gap at .045 for best results. DO NOT USE BOSCH PLATINUM +4 OR +2, THEY COLLECT OIL AND FOUL EASIER. With the MSD system you won't need them anyway.

My heads are straight plug not angle plugs. I use DynoMax Headers and a set of really cheap wire looms (Specter) with Accel 8.5 mm Helical Wires with 90 degree plug boots. I am running the MSD 6AL, it was a conversion kit for the old HEI. I don't have problems with wires and I use the regular R44LTS most of the time and R42LTS when going to the track. My gap for the Street plugs (R44lts) is 50 track so far is 45. My wires don't burn or contact the headers.

Ive got a set of hedmann ceramic headers on there w/ Accel 8.8 300+ Wires to fix the clearance problem, I was planning on just selling the MSD wires anyways. Thanks for the help
