That really does suck. Hope that they didn't do too much damage to your truck. You don't have an alarm system I take it. I'd invest in one. However if they want it bad enough they'll get it. Had you showed that of to anyone that maybe you'd suspect? It is pretty coincidental that just after you get the new stereo it gets stolen. It is a simple task to get into that truck with locked doors.

I am sorry it happend.

Although I have an alarm system on my Elky, I know that even just installing a flashing red light on your dash by the driver's side door can help make people *think* that you have an alarm, and therefore scare them away. Although, as mentioned above, if they really want to get in, they will.

We did that on my brother's Z28 back when he was in school. The off-campus street he needed to leave his car on was a real thief magnet.

We used a LED from Radio Shack that had a built-in flasher. LED, holder, dropping resistor, a couple of feet of wire. Put the + side to BATT and the - side to ACC so it would only flash with the switch off. Cost less than $5, and except for a drive-by BB attack noone bothered with the car.

For a 'casual' thief, the light is enough to make them move to another car (the whole 'I don't need Ft. Knox, I just need a better lock than my neighbor' argument). Of course, if your setup looks attractive enough, they're coming anyway. A good thief can be in and out before your alarm gets you up, bat-equipped, and out the door.

The worst one I ever heard of happened to one of my managers at a previous job. He had a fully-tricked 280ZX. Went to see family in NYC. Parked on street. 3AM, wakes to the alarm. Gets to the window in time to see his car dragged up onto a rollback and taken away, alarm sounding all the way. They recovered the stripped carcass a week later.

That is when I brake out the .44 Mag and put a few rounds through the cab, just to let them know how unsatisified I am with their decision.
