ok where to start... ok i have a 1981 el camino 267, yes yes 267 get a 350 ya ya ya, in the workings..
In the morning start up's it has a really hard time idleing, i set the choke and start it, i started blow quite a bit of Blue smoke at the start up, but the engine wants to die so i just rev it once and awhile to make sure it will stay alive, once it warms up it will idle on its own, but just recently it started to idle really really high i thought if it might just kick down after i give it some gas but no it still revs really high, i dont have a tach so i have no idea what the rpm is at.
Ill put it into reverse and it goes down to a lower idle but its still really high for being in a gear, same with Drive and 2nd and 1st. Its more of a fast pace idle instead of my lumpy idle i use to have.
I put a mild proformance cam in the engine a couple months, i did some head work (bascally just cleaned it up) new wires, new dist, ignition coil, new lifters, rocker arms, push rods, just bascally a top end rebuild
The new dist i put it has a vacum advance aswell as mechanical advance, my old dist had neither...
I dont know if any of these things i have done could of caused the problem but all the little upgrades i put in a couple months ago
Ill drive the elky to school, about a 10-15 drive then about 6 hours later ill have to drive home, but the idle is at normal, that dosnt make sense to me. I have tried to turn the elky off when it idles like a madman and turn it back on, but it still is a humming away
Any ideas???
