I've been looking into rebuilding or just plain tuning up the engine in my 82, and I was told that there were two V6 engines put into those. I was told that one would be the stock engine, or that there were special engines for them. (Not a V8 though, it was still a V6) I was wondering if you know if there is any truth in this, and if so, what is the difference between the two? (I have never heard anything about this before now :? )

There were two 3.8L V6's used in 82. The LC3 229ci and the LD5 231ci. The LD5 was the California engine. The LC3 was the engine everywhere else. The LC3 is the Chevy engine and has the distributor behind the carburetor. The LD5 is the Buick engine and the distributor is in front of the carburetor.
