: What's a '64 w/ 350 worth?

Okay, I really don't know much about El Caminos. I have always restored Fords or early GM cars, but I came across a 1964 El Camino that seemed like a pretty good deal. It's got a 350 with a new auto trans., ps, pb. It had factory AC, but the compressor has been replaced with a different type. It needs paint, although the current job isn't that bad. The interior is average, and the body is perfect and has no rust. It has been slightly lowered and has seems to have new suspension. The guy wants $7000, but I may be able to get it for $6000. Is it worth it? Does taking out the original engine and putting in a 350 hurt the value? I know that the original engine was a V-8, I'm assuming that was a 283, but was a 327 offered? How would you tell if it was once a 327, and would that make the car worth much more? Does anyone have any idea what it is worth?

I think the #'s matching thing is overrated...Yeah, it's cool and all, and a definite + if you're looking to build a factory-fresh restored car to show...but when I bought my project elky I intended to build and DRIVE it..my own personalized version of the '68 El Camino...$6,000 for a '64...That's up there. I'd give the underbody/frame a good long look for rust/damage/bondo/repairs. Get the vin and cowl plate #'s and do a google search for I.D. sites. There are some good ones out there. P.S. /P.B. stock on a '64 is a +...A.C. is a +....if it runs out strong and healthy, and you have the $$$, I say go for it! Good luck!
