I've got the front end of my elky apart and wanted to know if there's any way i can test the compressor to if it actually works,, I've never ran it before. When i turn the selector to ac, I can't feel or hear it come on...

Do you think I should convert over to R134 first then fill it an see if it runs?

Can the compressor motor run without freon?

If yours is an '82 model as your name suggests you should have an R-4 compressor. Grip the plate in front of the pulley and see if it turns about 3 revolutions, it may turn hard but this is o.k. use a glove or rag to be easy on your hands. If this works it's a good indication the compressor is o.k. and yes you will want to convert to 134-a or low pressure Hydrocool.(www.hydrocoolonline.com)
