I almost sold my El Camino. 8O
I've had it for about a year now and decided it wasn't worth putting any more money into.
I went to the store and bought a "FOR SALE" sign. In three days I had a couple of serious offers (and many more people who were just curious). Finally a guy showed up with cash in hand. I just couldn't go through with it.
I still might sell it if someone offers the right amount. That's unlikely. I knew when I started messing with this car that I wouldn't get the same money out of it that i put in it. I decided to throw some more money at the El Camino and make it my daily driver. I live two miles from work. And, I always rent a car for road trips.

Done:
Front end rebuild

New wheels and tires

New radiator

To do:
Fix leak in windshield (will be finished Friday afternoon)

New seats - Found bucket seats for $22 each. I'm going to look at them this weekend.

Fix sagging driver's side door - I've seen more than one really good "How To" on this site. I couldn't find one when I searched forums. Anyone know where to find it?

Fix A/C: This will probably be the costly one. The previous owner did some very strange and messy things.

Replace all weather stripping.

Wish me luck :D

I've owned a lot of cars (in the hundreds) but I haven't bought a new car since 1974 so I'm very aware that old cars require more attention than some people are willing to give. You have to be commited (and sometimes very commited) to stay ahead of all the repairs old cars require.

Just search for 'door hinge' or door hinge replacement. It' just a couple of hours work (helps to have a buddy assist) and the parts can be had at any good auto parts store for around $10.00.

And rarely enough money to keep them in perfect repair.

Regretfully sold my el camino years ago. Looking for it now.(or something of the sort) Choose your battles wisely.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

That's one of the reasons I decide to keep it a little longer. I spoke to several people who owned El Caminos in the past. They all regreted selling them. And, there are cars I've owned that I regret selling.
I planned to sell mine bacause I had my eye on a 1963 Dodgee Polara 440. It had a push-button transmission, which I've always wanted. In the end I decided it was best to stick with what I have. It may not be perfect but I know exactly what I've got.
