I need to order parts for my 1982 El Camino, but I don't know how to tell which of the 82 V6 engines I have. Can anyone help me? My 2 choices of engine are:
6 Cylinders 231 A 3.8L 2BL
OR
6 Cylinders 229 K 3.8L 2BL

I really don't know much about engines (yet) and have no idea how I would find out what kind of engine I have! Thanks!

If the distributor is in the front of the motor it is a 231 if it is in the rear of the motor it is a 229. Also you could look at the emissions sticker on the radiator fan shroud if its still there, it will also which motor you have.

The 8th letter in the VIN will tell you. "A" is 231, "K" is 229, "J" is 267, "H" is 305.
