I just bought a 68 Elky and the the tail lights don't want to shut off. I dissconnected the battery for the time being, but I would rather have a more permenate fix for it, any ideas to help a kid out?

First figure out if you are talking about tail lights or stop lights...

Do you also have front parking lights on? If not you are probably looking at stop lights.

What happens with the four way flashers on? Do the tail lights flash on and off? If so you are talking about stop lights because the flasher (turn or four way) take precedence over the stop lights.

For stop lights there is a switch on the brake pedal that could be out of adjustment or broken. Try unplugging it to see if lights go out. If so, you have found your culprit.

If it really is the tail lights then you are probably looking at a new head light switch.

Or a wiring short. But that is less probable.

It is only one light that refuses to go out, which is why I am confused. Drivers side, I have a chevelles interior in there right now, and the wiring got botched in the switch. Which I didn't do or I wouldn't be having the problem, but yeah. I checked in the chilton and couldn't find anything pertaining to my exact problem. So I figured I would ask the online community for help.
