need to buy paint for my frame.was thinking of useing eastwood rust encapsulator then top coating with por 15 back cote.i did a lot of research and eastwood seems to be a better for rust, but por 15 seems to be better for durability.eastwood claims that you can top coat with almost any paint.do you fellow elky owners have any comments if this is a good idea.i want to do this once!have any one tried out hardnose paint?was thinking of useing hard nose on floor pan/fire wall.
thanks for any imput.

Hardnose is a very good product but POR15 is superior, I have been using it for 6yrs now and wouldn't use anything else. I have even used it on Aluminum and still looks like I just painted it yesturday. Go to their web site and check it out www.por15.com I have seen por15 painted over rust not even prepaired one bit and is still on their. We use it in our shop and we have alot of rust buckets being held together with it. The company we contract for doesn't want to spend much on their equipment and this is how we make them look good.

I just did my frame, but I messed up and did it in 3 sections (rear, middle and front)) with por-15. You can tell I did it that way because fo the color-fade, and I did this all within a week. MY plans are now, to go over it with chassis paint. BUT, por-15 is really user friendly, covers well and is in fact, durable. AND if and when you use it, cover up, everything, including yourself. It took 3 days to get off of my hands, and over a week and a half to get off of my forearms (I'm a clutz, sue me :)) My friend used Eastwood, but por-15 is really the stuff to use at $35.00 a quart. ANd yes, I painted over allot of rust and the frame still looks like new :)

I agree, POR15 is the way to go AND protection must be used.

I had two quarts one of which started to soildify in the can after a few times of being open. It was a slow process, going from a smooth consistency, to gritty, and then useless. The point is to use all you can as fast as possible. I guess buying a gallon would be a waste.

I'd suggest Veriprime 615S. It is used in Aircraft to prevent rust and corrosion from salts and other contaminates. They spray the inside spars and surfaces with it. It's not as nasty, smelly or costic it is easier to put on than POR15 you can actually spay it just like a regular paint or primer. You primer/paint over it.

from what i compare eastwood is $29. QT,needs no top coat,uv safe, doesent need metal ready $28.por says hit it with a hammer.
