I know this is asked to death but I haven't been able to find the entire list. I have a '72 Elky. We are restoring it and my wife wants it to be a color that was original in 1972. Currently it is a Ford Grren. It had a Green Vinyl Top but I am not sure if it came with a vinyl top. The Interior was a Black Dash with a Tan colored door panels and Tan seats.

The Cowl Tags are:
ST 72 13680 D052 752 BDY
TR 720 A52 43 G PNT
98 B 0201

From the forum I found that the A52 is a Bech Seat which it has. I am assuming the 43 G are the paint colors but from the forum the G was in an earlier year than 72.

Any help would be appreciated even a link to the codes.

The D in first line is puzzling me. In other posts It was designating a plant. From the VIN Number I found it was built in Baltimore so the D has me wondering. The vehicle has been in my Wife's family for quite a while but my Father in law purchased it used but he knew it was repainted when he bought it back in '75.

Thanks in advance. :)

I'll give it a try.

72 = 1972
13680 = El Camino Custom V8
D = Mfg plant (are you sure about this one?) Baltimore is a "B"
052752 = Production serial # of body (should be 100001/up)
720 = Tan vinyl interior trim
A52 = Bench seat
43 = Paint, Gulf Green Metallic
G = ?
98 = Month built (should be 01-12. Could this be 08?)
B = Week built. 2nd week of the month.
0201 = ?

TR 720 A52 denotes a Tan Benchseat
43 Denotes Gulf Green metallic paint, and an educated guess says the G might denote a Green Vinyl top?

I'm not familiar with a "D" plant code in 1972.

Other colors available on 1972 Chevelles and El Caminos are: Antique White, Pewter Silver Metallic, Tuxedo Black, Ascot Blue, Mulsanne Blue, Spring Green, Sequoia Green, Covert Tan, Placer Gold, Cream Yellow, Golden Brown, Mohave Gold, Orange Flame, Midnight Bronze and Cranberry Red.

Good luck with your project.

... and an educated guess says the G might denote a Green Vinyl top?
I'd guess that too. But, all my manuals say a green vinyl top should be "GG"

Maybe it's half a green vinyl top? :lol:

:-P Thanks a lot guys. This helps a lot. From what you are saying it looks like the Ford green my Father-in-law was told was close to the green you are talking about. I did find that the Baltimore Plant was where it was built because the VIN number has a B. So the Cowl Tag could be a bit damaged. He worked at DuPont's Acid plant so the car has got a ton of rust in spots that normally wouldn't rust. It rusted under the Vinyl top.
The roof of the car is the same color green as the rest of the body and the Vinyl top was the same color green.

Thanks again for the quick reply and also for the other paint colors that were available.

While the books all say GG none of the trim tags have GG on them, only space for 1 G was alloted.

G - Green vinyl top

98 B 0201

98 is 9B, look close and you may see a 0 covered over with the rivet
09B - Sept, 2nd week produced

B 0201 are internal Baltimore Ident numbers that there is no documentation about so no one can figured them out.
