I Have a rebuilt Th400 sitting around and was Wondering if I could swap it for the one in the gen5. Any one Running one of these tranny's? If you are what size drive shaft did you need, Adapter, etc.

The TH400 is a very heavy duty trans and is not needed behind anything but the highest performance smallblock or a stout bigblock. It is heavier and "absorbs" more horsepower than a TH350 or TH2004R. Don't use it unless you need it.

I have a TH400 in mine. It is a pretty easy swap. You will need a crossmember made to fit it. You can get that from here>

Iceman Products (http://maliburacing.com/iceman/)

You will need to cut an inch or two off of the driveshaft and get a front u-joint that will adapt to the TH400 yoke. Best to get it all in and take your measurements than just guestimate and be wrong.

As Mrapii said, unless you are running a motor that could break the TH350 you really don't need it. They are heavy and do rob more power than the TH350.

Hello all. Great points about the 400's power costs and physical differences.

I was "listening" in to the conversation and I have a question from ignorance here.

Is the Gen 5 with its Engine Control Module dependent upon the transmission's electrical connections for anything (like gear position indicator or TCC lockup) in order for the engine to run correctly? Or, can you just unplug the trans's connection and ignore it and not cause any impacts to engine performance or emissions?

(I'm assuming the TH400 as no electrical connections)

Thx all.

You will effect the engine performance because the th400 absorbs about 15-20 more hp than a th350 to run its internal pumps and such also it does not have a lockup converter so you can expect a fairly significant drop in gas mileage with the th400----but it will work if you are willing to pay for it, and they are about bulletproof....................Dan

The electrical connector on the side of the 200-4R sends the 4th gear pressure switch signal to the ECM, and the ECM sends the signal for the TCC lockup through it also.
