Hey Region 9 members. I know you guys already know this, but I just saw a Speed Channel show on the Woodward Ave. dream cruise held every year. That looked frigon awesome. You guys are truly lucky to have such a massive event.

Now here is a thought that might garner a response or two. How about having the 50th Anniversary of the El Camino in conjunction with the Woodward Ave. dream cruise in 2009? Find one of the sponsoring towns, reserve a spot somewhere close to the action and have a great time.

And for the members that are very far away, why not have separate events celebrating the 50th anniversary during the same weekend, just on a different coast or different location?

Just a thought I had while watching the show.

Excellent idea Jay!

Now all we have to do is get our region members to turn out for an event!

Now lets take this one step further.

For those of you that have never been out to the dream cruise, it is one awsome event. All the Detroit auto manufactures are out showing their muscle cars. So how about this, we (or even myself and I think I can speak for Steve on this too) can contact General Motors, who have a large display area, and see if they will sponsor us in their area for the 50th anniversary of the El Camino in 2009. Now being a Caballero owner myself, I don't want us GMC guys left out.

What do you guys think? Can we get enough cooperation from our membership to pull this off?

For me, personally, this location is a little less than 700 miles away or about a 12 - 14 hour drive. Very doable from my standpoint. I'd definitely do some vacation time for this.

But Steve is correct in Now all we have to do is get our region members to turn out for an event!

The regional directors are trying hard to get more members to participate in car shows, parades, cruises, etc. I am an optimist and believe that this will eventually work out and we will probably have a good 8 - 10 % of online members participate in these events. It will just take time and determination.

My rust bucket BETTER be finished by 2009, if not, I'll be the one in the crusher :). Count me in, hopefully.

8) Hey guys! Count me in. It's only about 5.5 hours from me besides that my daughter livs in Pontiac so the wife and I could visit our grand kids and enjoy a great car show at the same time!

Hey poeple, just looking around the site and noticed the woodward cruise, this will be our 6th trip over to the cruise, only this year we will be bringing the elky. Up until now we were just admirers of the fine steel on display, if you've never been to the cruise your missing out on some of the nicest cars and trucks there is too be seen. We now go for the whole week instead of just the weekend, its a blast. We've met some nice poeple there and always plan our vacations around it, just thought I'd add my 2 cents..

I agree with Dale that this would make perfect sense for us to be involved with GM for a 50th anniversary event, however.......

If Dale and I work to set something up, GM is going to want to see more than his and my rides. We made several attempts to set up NECOA group events in 2005, but had minimal or sometimes no turnout.

I've said this before, I've got no problem in working my tail off to set something up, but we need to get better local turnout for events this Summer, and increase our member involvement over the next couple Summers before we can even think about promising GM that we can produce enough member rides to make it worth their while.

So what I am saying is that I am all for these ideas being presented, let's see how much member support there really is.

Steve,

Unless I can't physically move my decrepit butt, I'll give you my committment to be there. And, hopefully all, or at least the major part of my restoration will be complete.

Maybe we can get some others here in the SE to caravan up for the event. What can the rest of us do, to help you. . .?

With out a doubt I'll be there. I've been going to the cruise since it started, at which point I was REAL young, don't plan on not going this year. Heck I'm 10 mins away from woodward.

This will be the second year that my Elky will be out there, she's not up to show quality, got some rust coming through but I still love to show her off.

Let me know where you guys are thinking about parking and I'd be more than happy to park with ya.

Keep me in the loop about anything else you guys are planning.

Since you are close by, it would work out well if you could do some early scouting for us. Maybe you could talk with some business owners.

hey guys, there seems to be a glitch on comming to the cruise this year. My brother is in Austria and doesn't think he can make it back this year so that leaves us in a bind, as in we have no place to stay. We being my boys, we're going to try to make it any ways at least for 2 days. Our plan was to stay for the week with my brother, so we'll have too see what happens, just letting you guys know as I said I was going to be thier Dan
