How long ago was the Elco painted? Is the rubber gasket sticking to the chrome trim or the body? Any pictures?

I've had pretty good luck with "OOPS! Multi-Purpose Remover". You can get it at Loews, Home Depot, etc. But I've "heard" that WD-40 might work to break up the glue.

Make sure you take your time and let the chemical work to break up the glue. You will have to clean it up and apply some wax afterwards.

If it is really stubborn, I would suggest a quick trip to your local auto body shop for an estimate and opinion.

Good thing the paint is not new. That would have been a problem. How long was the cap on it?
