So in trying to get rid of an error code 42 on my car which talks about an open or ground in the distributor or ignition circuit. I decided to do some probing, if I check the ignition circuit at the connector for the pod with ignition off I get ground and no volts.

with the ignition in the run position, I get ground and volts.

I was shocked to find ground, is that normal?

so in talking with a buddy, he was telling me there is a way to use a jump wire across the est connector to see if it clears the code to identify if maybe it is just a bad ground or what may be going on, and on which side it is.

If anyone can help me some more with this one it would be great.

Anyone have any info on this, I could really use some advice.

The jist of what I need to know is what is the normal behavior of the ignition circuit.

Should I always see ground no matter what position the key is in, which is what I am seeing?

This is all in an effort to clear up the dreaded error code 42. After a ton of electrical testing regarding the EST circuit, I'm thinking I might have gotten a better, but still defective ECM.
