: Where are the Denver drivers??
Moneypit 68 08-20-2005, 09:33 PM I've had the '68 up and running for a month now (in all it's primered glory)and for the FIRST time today I saw a 3rd gen driver on the road. There are plenty of 5th gens out there and a few 4th gens, but the 3rd gens and lower around here must all be "trailer queens" or still up on jack stands somewhere. Do we have any 3/2/1/ gen drivers in the Denver area?? I'm lonely! :( 8)
I drive my '68 a lot, but I stay north of Denver most of the time.
a73elkyss 09-23-2005, 08:48 AM Welcome back Dan. Small world. I'm sure you don't remember me, but I purchased your poster many years ago back in 2001. At the time, I was determined to get the El Camino that I had always wanted. Your poster and articles that you wrote started my gathering of information. When I purchased your poster, I did ask for your advice and you said:
Generally, I'd say you are a lot better off to pay more up front and get a better car than you are buying a "cheap" car that needs a lot of work. Also, I think you are better off buying a car from a knowledgeable enthusiast, rather than some dealer who doesn't know much about the cars they sell.
Well I took your advise and purchased a '72 El Camino. You can see it here. (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album35&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php). I kept that '72 for awhile, but sold it for my present ride, a '73 Elky SS. (http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album199&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php&page=1).
Just wanted to say thanks again for your poster, articles, and your advice.
But back to the subject of this post. Denver is located in Region 16 which includes MT-WY-UT-CO. The regional director is Allen Burch. You can email him at Bulletman700@hotmail.com and goes by the ID of "bulletman" on these boards.
It has taken awhile, but here in the Northeast we are going to car shows as a club. It is always nice to have a nice line of El Camino's drive into a show. Out west where you guys are, the states are quite a distance apart. One idea that we are also using here is a "state coordinator". This person knows the "local" car show circuit and organizes the club to go to shows or cruise nights.
Hope it helps.
67elkybryan 11-16-2005, 11:48 AM Got a '67. It's finally running, not well but running. Just got the front and rear glass put in it. Going to put the lights in it and throw a tune up at and hope it will pass the e test. Once I have tags I'll probably look for a new engine. But I will drive it while I work on finishing it up. I have pics in the user gallery if your interested in taking a look. It's rough but it's coming along.
RabidTribble 01-31-2006, 09:51 PM I personally have a 79 Conquista, but my father has a 1966 - It's been in his shop for a couple of years but has a new 350 crate motor and TH350 transmission. Now that he's retired, it's due to get a paint job (the darker teal green that was an original 1966 color in memory of one he had "back in the day") and it should be on the streets occasionally after that. Unfortunately, he's not a member here. Although he shares our love for the El Camino, he's not yet sold on the Internet.
racegirl14 02-03-2006, 12:15 AM And am in desperate need of finding the clubs and the shows to go to here soon. Don't race a dirt track to race at this summer, so decided to dump all the racing money into my project. If anyone has any ideas on how to get rust off my dash vin number, or where the other vins are, that would be of great help.
:)
SkinnyKid 04-04-2006, 05:31 PM Oh sweet! I was hoping there was a forum for this region. I just picked up my '86 Elky from ST. Louis, drove her back to Lone Tree. Sorry, I'm a 5th Gen, but I'd still cruise with you. :)
79ElkyStroker 04-09-2006, 08:32 PM Just found this site after owning my 79 for 16yrs.
Hers the car, its been a strret/race car but will likely be going to a more street/fun use now, with an occasional track outing.http://tj-d-signs.com/Team%20Racing/El%20Camino%20at%20HP%20topeka.jpg
80ElCaMEANo 06-21-2006, 01:06 PM Just bought a 5g 80 Elky. Bone stock with the 229 v6. Planning on going street rod. I found this site and saw the forum for Denver. Any help from you guys would be great. I had an 80 Elky back in 00, but had to sell due to being pulled over all the time for the system. I'm going to tone it down a little and go for more of a hotrod style. If you guys have any runs or get togethers let me know and I will be there to show off my hooptie.
SkinnyKid 06-29-2006, 04:13 PM I think all the Denver area owners need to get together sometime... Maybe some Friday night, we could all meet at an Old Chicago's or something. Make sure to get the place's approval before we all park and take up space. That way we can all meet, get to know each other, and have an extra hand if anyone needs local Elky help...
El Diablo 11-02-2008, 05:43 AM I am up for a meet and eat in denver sometime. Just give me a ring and I'll swing on down.
burnera 11-09-2008, 02:30 PM i'm an el camino driver too. Just got my '77 a week ago, traded a couple of guns for it.
It's something of a ****box but i still drive it around. Definitly need to work on it though. It'd be great if there were some denver people to meet up with and learn from. I've never owned a car with a carburetor before.
El Diablo 11-12-2008, 06:20 AM I heard that the A&W in berthoud has a classic car night.
67elkybryan 11-13-2008, 04:23 PM I'm pretty active in the Rocky Mountaind Chevelle and El Camino club. At this time it is sort of going through a change. It seems lately there are more active members with El Camino than Chevelles.
Let's see there is my 67 and another guy is also building a 67. There is another gal with a 69 and there is my girl freind who has a 83 and a 79 Cabellaro. That's 4 of the 6 active members that have El Caminos.
We also just picked up a couple new people that I think have 5 gen El Caminos. I know for sure one of them does.
Oh I almost forgot our, I guess you would call him our leader has a 66 Chevelle and is slowly putting togeather a 66 EC. And I mean slowly.
If you are interested in meeting up with us just PM me and I will get you info of where we will be and put you on the email list. As of now we are really disorganized as we just lost our club president and to be honest only have 6 or 7 members who are even active anymore. We hope after the 09 season to be back to a fully functioning club again.
But in the meantime we are just a rag tag bunch trying to have fun and hopefully increase our members. We really need some new blood.
Currently we have no dues or set meetings. During the winter the six of us plan on getting the club back in line. I know for sure that in January or February we are going to sit down and plan out the 09 season. As of now I'm sure we will be going to the Rambler Ranch (a amazing collection of 200-300 AMC's, Ramblers other cars) and maybe the Tebo Museumn (a private collection in Loveland of approx. 150-200 cars) along with various car shows and cruises.
We also put on a Chevelle and El Camino show the first part of August every year. Usually draws 100 or so Chevelles and El Caminos.
67elkybryan 11-13-2008, 04:49 PM The things in and around Denver I know of are...
the first Saturday May - October. The Golden Super Cruise 5-whenever on Old Golden road. Usually draws close to 800-1000 cars so arrive early. After 3:00 forget about getting a good parking spot. http://goldensupercruise.com/
The Sonic at 72nd and Federal has a cruise I think at least once or twice a month during the summer. Might be every Saturday. I'm not sure cause I rarely travel up North.
The Hamburger Stand on Union just south of 6th has a cruise the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Summer.
The Burger King on Wadsworth and Quincy has a cruise usually the second or third Friday of the month during the summer.
Same thing at the Burger King at Kipling and Jewell the third Friday of the month during the summer.
I usually hit the ones on in the southwest area since that is closest to me. But there is at least one or two cruises a week minimum and a bunch of shows every weekend.
Your best bet is to pick up a copy of the Scoop at most news stands or grocery stores. It lists most every car thing taking place in the area.
If you want to hang out with other El Camino people just PM me and I will let you know where the El Camino club will be if anywhere. But you will also have to put up with the Chevelles too.
