Okay here it goes. I recently purchased a 74 elky as my daily driver. I love it! I've had so much fun wrenching on it that my 71 rs/ss 350 camaro (my retoration project) keeps glaring at from the garge when ever I pop the Elky's hood. I live in California which means my 74 is smog exempt. Oh yeeah, baby no more smog machines in my life. Anyway, I had a very liberating evening. I removed the smog pump and began preping for the headers that should be showing up any day now. The car starts and drives just fine. It wil idle all day and run all day. However when I stomp on the gas peddle the car hesitates then accelerates. I've noticeed that it does it more drastically when it it's colder. Any ideas of where I should begin the trouble shooting? just for review, it's a 74 with a GM Goodwrench 350 (about 60,000 miles on it) with a Rochster 4bbl, th350 transmission, and unkown gears ( to be replaced with 3:73 posi). First thing is are you sure the fuel is clean and void of water? Next check the pressure out of the fuel pump...they can run a long while on low pressure, but can't handle the load if in the early stages of failing. Last and definitely not least check the float level and accelerator pump for defects. :)

that's what I vote for, should've seen the one I pulled out of mine!

I dunno - while I would change the fuel filter anyway on general principle (since many owners don't do it like they should, so yours is probably overdue), bog-then-launch when you punch it to WOT sounds a lot like secondary bog to me rather than supply-side fuel starvation.

Mine was bad about it, and still does it a little (just not enough to irritate me into going after it). I played with the secondary hangar and the air valve spring tension. You may want to check that the choke pull-off is working properly also.
