My small block '68 has the oil fill tube on the front of the stock maifold next to the water neck. I'm thinking of swapping it out for an aluminum dual plane, but had a couple questions. 1: I don't need to find another manifold with a oil fill neck do I? 2: I'm planning on slapping my quadrajet back on,(yeah, I know, but it was just rebuilt) any recomendations on a manifold that accepts rockesters easily and has decent low to mid range performance.
Thanks.

That sounds like an Oldsmobile engine. I thought all SBC had the oil filler in the valve cover.

The oil filler tube went away in the 60's. Not sure exactly the year though.

Here is an early 327:

Here is a 68 Camaro witha 327 on eBay:

I have seen 350's also with the front filler tube.

The 283 that was orginally im my 67 had the filler neck in the manifold. I don't see why you would have to keep the filler neck. I think you could go with the oil filler in the valve cover.

You can try www.edelbrock.com they have a wide selection of intake manifold for all sorts of engines. And the intake I have on my 350 had a old beaten rochester q-jet on it with the hot air choke. That was bolted right on it and fits the Edelbrock #1400 600CFM emission legal carb(duh :P). Or give Holley a try. If thats what your looking for at least. I would assume since if you get a new intake w/out the filler neck you can always get new valve covers with the oil cap on them. Thats my 2 cents.

Fetish,
You can replace the manifold to an aluminum one without the filler but you will need to make sure one of your valve covers will have the hole to add oil. One of the valve covers already has the little hole for the PVC valve, usually on the drivers side towards the front. The oil fill hole is usually in the passenger side valve cover towards the back. Not a big deal to solve this issue. Best of luck.

Thanks.Any dual-plane manifold that accepts spread-bore carburetors should work fine. I have an Edelbrock Performer that does a good job. There's also something from GM Performance (10185063, 12496820, 14096011 and 14097494) , Holley (300-38, and 300-67) and Weiand (models 8000, 8004 and 8024) that will work.

I'm sure there are more if you look for them, but I think one of the above will work fine.

The Edelbrock Perfomer (not the RPM) has a boss for the filler tube than cam be knocked out. If you're filler tube has the PCV fitting in it that might be the best way to do it.
