Forgive me, I'm learning as I go. So here comes another novice question. I did a search but couldn't find an exact answer to my question, so here goes. I'd like to pull the points distributor from my small block, and install a HEI, I'd like to pull it from a junk yard or buy it off ebay, but was wondering if I could use any small block chevy dist. or is there some I need to avoid?
Thanks

The hei needs a full 12 volts that the point system does not use need to run a good size 12 or larger wire for your full 12 volts with ignition on.

just to add, don't get one without the vacuum advance that one is for a electronically controlled ignition

Another thing to consider is the mechanical advance curve will need to be set up for your vehicle. Late model HEI's have limited total advance and full advance doesn't happen to 4000 rpm-Not great for performance.
