Have a chance to pick up a Jag rearend for my 66 El Camino, the guy owes me for building a computer for his business and setting the programs up. Just wondering if this will be a task that I can handle on my own in the carport. I have access to welders, torches, etc. I'd like to do it just for the looks but, not if it is going to be a pain in the keester. Independent suspension would be great. The other side of the coin is rims, will the chevy rims fit or will I have to lug around two spares??? The rear is still in the jag and I will have to go help pull it and cut out the mounting brackets to hang it. What do Ya think, install it or sell it off??? :D

Anything is possible, I'm a firm believer of that. I would have to say however that the installation of the Jag rearend in an Elky would be a large project to say the least. You would basically have to re-work every part of the rear frame section not to mention your parking brake cables, brake lines, etc. The lug pattern would probably different as well, but you could probably get new axles made with the correct bolt spacing or you could as you noted us 2 different wheels front and rear. Also, I'm not sure, but you would want to make sure the dimensions (width mainly) of the Jag rear are near those of the rear in your elky now. Can it be done, I would say it certainly could be, but at what price, I don't know.

Sounds like a major undertaking. If you decide to go for it, take plenty of pics.

I know a guy that has a Jag Xj6 rear available. It looks pretty cool. Independant Rear Wheel suspension and disk brakes, dual shocks too I think, its pretty trick. I gave it a lot of thought myself.

The jag rear end looks trick, but isn't dependable. Jags aren't known to be torque monsters. The v12 rear might have a chance.

I had a 1963 Mark X once. One of the biggest problems I had, was that the disk brakes are on the inside next to the diff. If you have to do any brake work, the whole rear assembly has to come off the car. Parts are $$$, and take a while to get. It handled great! and the MKX was over 4000 pounds. Something I have thought about too.
