Is removal of the wiper motor required to repair the windshield washer pump or can it be done by removing the cover? I would think there is a repair kit for this available some where. Does anyone have any easy tricks or tips for this repair? Thanks

When the windshield washer pump went on my 79 Elky I went the cheapo route and bought a $4.99 remote pump at the local NAPA. I mounted it on the fender well and hooked it up to the old wiring and hoses. NAPA also sold the stock replacement windshield washer pump for under $30.

The 85 has only 35000 miles and is in good original condition so I want to keep the stuff original on it. That pump system is not the greatest but I will just replace it. Does anyone know if you have to pull the wiper motor to do this repair?

You do not have to pull anything but the old pump undo the metal clip slide the old one out. Install new clip on the new one and slide it back in.
Piece of cake.

:D Got her done I found it easier to remove the plastic cover, three screws, as it slides up into that cover. With all the wiring under that area going to the fuse block I could not get it back in. Took the cover off and put it in and put the clip back on and then reinstalled the cover. That makes it even easier. Thanks for all the help!!
