Hi
I'm an 1970 396 SS El Camino owner in sunny Great Britain and I'm having trouble getting the correct intermidiate parking brake cable. The cable that has broken is appro 86" long but the replacement is only 76" long. My parts supplier tells me this is the correct item and that the broken one was not a standard item.
Can anyone tell me if there is an 86" cable for this model and if so the part No.
As you can imagine information in the UK is a bit scarce so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arron,

I don't know if this will help, but there are/were at least two different intermediate cables, based on the type transmission. The placement of the crossmember for the trans is the driving factor. I'm changing from a 350TH trans to a 200R4 (which has the crossmember in the same place as a 400TH). My solution is to buy 1/8" multi-strand steel wire from a local marine supply store and make my own. This store also sells ends that can be swagged onto the cable ends, and that fit the connectors between the intermediate and rear cables.

I did this on my '67 Chevy which has a similar system.

Hope this helps.
