Sorry everyone I meant to lock it and hit the delete key by mistake.

It was starting to get out of hand.

I concur with shutting down the tread at this time.

Let's keep our members and their families in our prayers...and in our financial contributions. As well as all our fellow citizens in the path of Katrina and the secondary levee failures that made a horrible situation worse. Contact your local favorite charity to make a donation, please.

If we aren't fixing the immediate problem, let's stay out of the way and hold our comments until the appropriate later time for analysis and blame.

i have to say, this site was representative of the PRIDE we have for america and for the things it stands for. we showed an unbeliebable pride and joy in owning something very unike in american car history.we showed some unbelievable patriotism when it came to suppot and defend of our country, and what it stands for. some of the replies to the theme at hand were really disgusting. maybe we are better at just talking bs, about our cars, and showing love for them ,than we are at showing care for AMERICANS in need. it leaves a lot to be desired...what a shame....

kepp it closed please...

lets go back to "i love chevy" :-( ....... what a shame....are we really that shallow?

It's gone, not that I meant to. There were some valid points brought up and some not. But I really only wanted to lock and and was not paying attention like I should have and hit the delete button by accident.

I think on ECC everyone should be able to give their view about a subject and not have to worry about being attacked etc. Everyone's view is different and important.

Like I have said twice now I did not mean to delete the thread. I cannot make it any clearer then that. I did plan on locking the thread. Threads have been locked here before and will most likely be locked in the future.

If you have a problem with what I did or anything else that I have done here feel free to contact Robert More (acauth1) owner of ECC to have me removed as a moderator here.

Edit - here is Robert's contact information for anyone that is unhappy with my mistake.

You can PM or email him about this.

I had been monitoring that thread and was getting close to locking it as well. In the past, I've locked several threads that I feel were getting out of control. In the future I'm certain I'll have to do it again.

As far as I'm concerned, the only censorship that will happen here is to clean up members foul language when they start using verbage not fitting for a family viewed forum. Rob accidently clicked on the wrong button. Give him a break, don't call it censorship.

Now, let's get back to talking about El Camino, Sprint and Caballeros.

Some things are so important that they transcend any concern about "hurting people's feelings". We enjoy the freedom of our hobby in large part because of the sacred principles of our country. If something affects these principle then it could be harmful to our hobby and we should be aware of danger. The administrators of this forum have been wise in the past about locking out posts and I am sure they will continue to use good judgement without stifling important discussion.

I had not seen the foul lauguage. I'm not even sure what would be considered bad enough to lock the thread. Possibly I had not yet seen the offending post(s) just before the thread lock (deletion).

I very much agree with Mrapii's sentiment.

I apologize to Poltergeist in regards to censorship; could you please email me the issue that caused the action of a possible thread lock (deletion) in this case.

Foul language alone will not get a thread locked, (or deleted). There is a posting filter that looks for certain words and automatically replaces them. If some words don't get caught by the filter I will just replace the foul language with "Potty Mouth". The content of the post will remain intact. To the best of my recollection there wasn't any foul language in the "politics aside" thread.

What are the 2 things that will usually get people heated up while talking (or typing) about?? Religion and Politics. In the Politics aside post politics was becoming more and more the center of the posts. It was starting to get very heated and was not going any kind of a productive direction.

There is nothing to email to anyone because the posts do not exist anymore.

There IS A PLACE for censorship in a PRIVATE GROUP FORUM.
This is NOT the Republican/Democrat/Libertarian/"Insert your political party here" forum or debate society. This is the EL CAMINO site. There are a boatload of OTHER places for those views.

There is a LOT of nasty ugly things that go on in the world. That does NOT mean that the discussion of any of those things belongs here.

Personally, if I was the moderator the post would not have been locked but in fact deleted.

That it happened by accident is fortuitous for us all.

Yeah so? It says you might be exposed. Doesn't say that posts will not be locked or deleted.

The first part talks about the exchange of car information.

Poltergeist. 8O. I wasn't referring to deletions or locks. I was referring to the prior post to mine from dabirdguy. But I aplogize I had not used the quote tool from dabirdguy's post.

But to address your reply:

Does the first quote actually talk about the exchange of "car" information? Hmmm, "...free and open forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and opinions from owners and enthusiasts of the Chevrolet El Camino and its sister GM trade-marked vehicles".

You say the site "Doesn't say that posts will not be locked or deleted." I agree:

"...this web site exclusively reserve the right and may, at any time and without notice and any liability to you, modify or discontinue this web site and its services or delete the data you provide, whether temporarily or permanently. We shall have no responsibilty or liability for the timeliness, deletion, failure to store, inaccuracy, or improper delivery of any data or information."

But does it state that a forum has to be in a "productive direction" as you stated earlier when deciding upon a thread lock?

When your opinion states that a thread does not have a "productive direction" after accidentally deleting it, then stating that it "Doesn't say that posts will not be locked or deleted" (interesting you added the word deleted), it really makes me wonder because I simply requested you to state the issue in an email; I didn't say provide a copy of the deleted post in an email, and I certainly did not ask you to provide remarks such as "Yeah so?".

This thread does not seem to be going in any "productive direction". 396driver, if you wish to continue this with discussion with Poltergeist or dabirdguy why not do it in e-mail or PM's. I think you're both beating a dead horse. Let's get back to talking about El Camino, Caballero, and Sprint.

Gentlemen, lets just respect the wishes of the mods and keep the discussion limited to our hobby. The moderators are volunteers that are here to make sure this website doesn't devolve into a flame war. I have been to other enthusiast sites and there are some that I avoid just because it is non-stop bickering. If I want bickering, I can turn on the news 24/7. I recognize that there are as many political, social, and religious views as there are people, and I respect them all even if I don't agree. However, I also like el camino central as a shelter from all the bickering in the world. We are a community of enthusiasts who share a passion. Lets not break that up with arguing.

BS is BS.

People are individuals with different viewpoints.

If a topic is out there for discussion... I'm sharing my stance. 8O
