What's the best way to remove paint from cast aluminium valve covers? I have a set of M/T valve covers that were pianted & I would like to polish them. I'm a little worried about staining them with some of the paint removers on the market.

What about having them plastic media blasted? It uses soft plastic particles as the blasting medium. It's better than a chemical paint remover.
Ernie, I like that idea if I can find a shop in this area that does that sort of work. Thanks for the reply, and I might add that this site has been very helpful to me in a number of ways.

Look in the phone book for a sandblasting shop near you. Ask around, someone can probably hook you up with a shop that does it.

If you can't find any, you can try an autobody place. They'll have the sandblasting equipment, and can probably give you a quote for the work.
Thanks for the tips guys, I never thought about a body shop that's a good idea.
