Of the fifth gen. cars, which year is the most sought after, and why? Thanks

I'm not sure I've ever heard of one 5th gen year being prefered over another, but if you are into the Royal Knight, it had a limited run, and also the mythical 1988 (left over stock from 1987) is always a popular topic of discussion!

How about a 1980 SS with original factory-optional hubcaps (which cost about $44 more than rally sports at that time), 82,325 miles on original 305 engine and previously owned by someone associated with the mob who "commited suicide" in Mississippi? :P

I'd have to go with 81 because it's my favorite front end plus it doesn't have the different sized brake components like 78s and 79s. It has a little less metric stuff too, but that good be good or bad. That's somewhat sought after by me, but as far as 5th gens go, the cars didn't vary a whole lot through the years.

A 78 or 79 are the only years with a 350 from the factory, so that might make them more sought after. And probably any of the Choo Choo's would be more collectable.

I've had a "79" and now a "83" and I prefer the "83" mainly because it has a nicer dash package. I like the 5th generation body style the best, but they failed to put a big enough engine and trans in them. I guess thats why most 5th generation owners tend to customize them.
My $.02.

Hey thanks for all the replys. As a 70' SS owner, I was qurious about the smaller cars. With the price of gas, where I live, power to weight is almost a consideration. Thanks again!

I would look for the youngest and prettiest one you can afford. One without any extra weight like Bondo. No cellulite like hail damage or door dings. Certainly no cancer or rust. Shinny paint is a good measure of health and a measure of care she has received. Whatever Camino you bond with will be sure to need lots of loving and frequent upgrades. New shoes and lots of food or fuel on a regular basis.

The younger ones born in 1986 or 1987 are just about to turn 19 or 20. Try to find one that was not abused in her younger days. Some of them were worked hard and treated like a truck, and received no love.

I just spent the weekend exchanging fluids with my baby. She got all greased up and slicked down with an oil change. I even got her some new front brakes to keep her under control. We have been together for nearly 200,000 miles. I treat her with respect and she takes me wherever I want to go.

It helps a lot if you wife likes her as well.

Well I'm pretty forunate in the wife dept. She loves cars, and me to, most of the time. What kind of interior, or equipment packages are the ones to look for? In the late 80's did they call it an SS? What would have been considered the H.P. package, and what was it? 350/350? Thanks

to my knowledge 78-79 were the only ones with 350/350's and the SS packages gave no HP only appearance.

I've been meaning to ask you guys and since it does have to do with this question.

I have been thinking of going back to the original Black Night paint scheme what do you guys think? and does anyone know how many were produced because I have not found that number.

I know it is my decision on this but just asking your opinions. Reason being I need to do some minor body work on the old gal and was just thinking hhhmmmm.

I think a Knight is special because most people refere to their auto's as girls. I think of a Knight as a studly kind of Male auto.. Anyway, Their isn't enough out there to worry about it. I would love to see one more knight on the road. My knight draws a crowd whenever I pick my daughter up from school. Her class thinks He is so cool! 8) .
They are only second graders but a crowd isn't defined by age. :P
