: Ricer question...
Will7128301 08-28-2003, 11:21 AM Now for those of you that are really a wrenchhead can maybe explain the ability of this to me. I was talking with one of my classmates he was saying that if I gave him 15K he could get a ricer and soup it up to beat any muscle car.I know a little but what could be down to a elky for 15 hell even 10k engine wise.... Anyway I would like your guys thoughts on this.
I would just figure 15K thats a lot of coffee cans and yellow stickers...
87ElCamino 08-28-2003, 12:08 PM Many modified "Ricer" cars are capable of running in the high 8's or low 9's at 150-160 mph in the quarter mile. See if you can do that with your two ton Elky and $15K.
Will7128301 08-28-2003, 12:20 PM speak english, they are fast I got that much. I am about as familar with cars and I am with quantum physics. Still slowly learning bit by bit...
2-Elkys 08-28-2003, 01:23 PM Add Rice Krispies in the gas tank and ricers can snap crackle and pop also! Once again it to each their own..
theelcaminofactory 08-28-2003, 04:21 PM Hmmmm 15k, lets see, how about a Mazda Miata powered by a jet engine. Oh wait does it still quailfy as a ricer then? I don't think there are any jet engines that say "MADE IN JAPAN" on them.
Poltergeist 08-28-2003, 10:16 PM Many of the import motors are built very well and with some kind of forced induction in mind wheather it comes with it or not. There is a dune buggy shop that I dyno my cars at that uses stock Nissan motors, for some of the buggies they build, and they add their own turbo system to it. They are getting 425 hp at the rear wheels, this is with a 23% drivetrain loss. So about 525 at the flywheel. Combine that with a light car and a shot of N2O and you have a screamer. BTW the motors cost the shop about $400.00.
ElkyPete 08-30-2003, 05:44 AM For 15K you can build a pretty killer SBC or BBC also. Someone had a MPEG of a Scooter outrunning a Trans Am, both on Gas (NOS). I am not talking about a Motorcycle but a sidewalk scooter with, it looked like, a model airplane engine on it.
So he possibly can, with that much money, but I'd like to point out that with enough thrust you can fly a Brick, but why! I spent about 5K or less on a SBC and it produces about 430 to 450. With 15K I can get up into the 1500 Hp range. I could probably even make it streetable. My point is 15K is a lot of cash. And after all the mods and upgrades it is still going to be an ugly little ricer.
theelcaminofactory 08-30-2003, 06:57 AM The brick was an F4 Phantom Pete...and your correct modify any ricer and the end result is still the same, you'll still have "an ugly little ricer"

Agreed. For about $11k, you can get a Bill Mitchell 454 small block, which tested out at over 600hp, and includes a warranty. Oh, and that was on 91 octane, so there is obviously still room to run a more aggressive timing curve! Adding fuel injection would probably allow an even more aggressive build, while still remaining streetable.
Heck, you could even buy a supercharger (and then some) with the extra $4k you still have left, and probably be in the 800hp range :)
It will take a lot for a small engine to come even close. Comparing that 7.4L (454) engine to a typical 2L engine, the small engine needs to extract 3.7 times more horsepower per unit volume. That just plain ain't very likely, on pump gas. And when you're pushing the engine that much harder, it can't be expected to last very long, at all.
Of course, I generally think of "ricers" as the "all show, no go" type, not like the import racers, who actually do build some impressive cars, on occasion. I still prefer my V8, though :)

Elky85 08-30-2003, 09:54 PM i saw a supra today on super2nr that dynoed at 790hp to the rear wheels, i didn't hear how much torque it had, but thats pretty impressive. I bet it had to use a higer than hell octane fuel, but thats still alot of ponies.
and i don't know what you think the definition of a ricer is, but i consider it: someone who thinks their car is faster due to appearance mods on their car
Will7128301 08-31-2003, 12:54 AM Yup thats a Ricer, Theres a differenece between that and acutal race cars that the ricers mimic off of, the actual racers with wrench time and the adjustments. I have respect for those. but its the Ricers of today the ones you see 16-20 year olds driving thinking its hot **** becuase of a coffee can and yellow stickers for parts they don't have or any connection to.
ElkyPete 08-31-2003, 08:41 AM Aren't most new cars now days "Ricers?" Lexis, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, Isuzu, Small Chevy's, Small Fords, Most Dodges etc...
Its Manufactured Overseas somewhere, looks like everything else, has about the same engine as everything else, Front wheel drive, squatty little "Bug" looking body with no class. That is my definition of Ricer.
Its "Converted Rice" if they've added a Big Giant Wing to any of the above or added the Same to a Truck, Full Size American/Mexican/Canadian made older car or that and shoved the tires way out past all 4 fender wells.
Its just my way of viewing things. Its not a right way / wrong way thing it is just how I look at things.
