I have an 87 305 elky and am in the middle of putting new heads on it. I found that I had to unhook or unbolt or remove completly more than I thought. So my A/C doesnt work so i took most of it out, but does the a/c motor blow the air for heating as well? Also if I take all the smog and emissions stuff off my car will it still run properly? Can I put parts from other cars that allow me to do so? I live in Cali but the county i live in only requires smog when selling a car not every other year like everywhere else. So passing smog is not an issue. Mostly its removal is to simplify under the hood, as well as releasing some more ponies. any advice?

Are you talking of the AC compressor or the blower mounter on the firewall? The compressor has nothing to do with you heater system, so it can be removed and you'd still have a functioning heater.

Also if I take all the smog and emissions stuff off my car will it still run properly?

Mine did. :-D You may not pass inspection though. If your county is really as you say then you could probably remove it. The only thing I'm not completely sure on is if your car has an ECM that would affect performance when removing all that stuff. I removed it...but I also swapped the engine. All I have now is a light on my dash telling me that I need to check the engine.

yea i am refering to the ac compressor so it will go. as for emissions controls what can and should i remove? also what can i not remove?
for instance can i remove the air system that pumps oxygen into the exhaust manifold and cat?

If you live in a county that requires yearly smog test chances are it won't pass. If you do not live in a smog county you are better off removing everything, including the computer, get a HEI distributor with a vacuume advance and re-time the engine to your altitude 2 deg for every 1000 ft of elevation. I live at 5000 ft so my timing is around 10 deg BTDC. This may make resale difficult in some cases.

Chris, I am insulted! :P

Starting cleanly is about the only thing my Elky does right. And we here in SC don't even inspect vehicles anymore.
