:) Well guys I'm moving to down to join you in Oklahoma. Unfortunalty the elky isn't coming with me at first. Will have to wait out the winter and bring it down from Pa in the spring. Moving down from Northern New York is going to be great. I was wondering about vehicle regs and the like there in OK though. Emmisions and that sort of thing. Any info you guys have will be greatly appreciated!
What kind of winters do you have down there anyway? I'm used to single digits from december till early march. NOt only that lots of Lake Effect snow. Especially here in Syracuse we get it in the feet usually. heck Syracuse has had the highest amount of snowfall in NY State for the past several years!

First off, the vehicle emission regulations are pretty simple, there are none.
We don't even have a vehicle inspection at all.
As to winters, in Altus Oklahoma you will not even notice the winters after living in NY. We get one or two snows per year. Most of the time it melts off the next day. The worst year ever in the 30 years I have lived in OK was back in 1979. We had ice and snow on the roads for almost two whole weeks! Most "real bad" storms may mess up the roads for two or three days. We often have highs in the 50s or 60s in January and February. You may well go all winter and not see ANY snow.
The bad news is Altus often hit 100 in the summertime. Be sure you have a car with good air conditioning. My 86 Camino will blow 40 degree air in 100 degree heat.

If you don't have air in the El Camino better not bring it to this part of the country. I have used my A/C every month but January if that tells you how hot it can get down here. Sell it and buy one down in OK City, there are always lots of them for sale. I think this area has more El Camino's per square mile than anywhere in the world.

Just today, November 3rd, 2005 in Altus Oklahoma the temperature hit 91 degrees. It was "only" 83 here in OKC.
What was the weather like in Northern NY?
When do you make the big move?

You'll likely enjoy some of the worse storms you've ever encountered in the Great State of OK - not to mention tornados! But I guess you can't really prep the Elky much for that.
A point too is that some of the best Camino specimens are in that part of the country - no rust to speak of.
Beautiful country, but MAJOR change from NY.
Take care.

You will get to watch storms approach from many miles away, it is fascinating. The weather forecasting in Oklahoma is "state of the art." No other state has as many meteorologists. The national severe storms laboratory is in Norman OK. The bleeding edge of weather radar is developed in Norman. I watched the big F-5 tornado that hit South OKC develop for well over an hour. Tornados just don't sneak up on us and hit without warning. The local TV stations compete trying to have the newest fastest radar systems. They can track a storm minute by minute block by block, and that is not an exagration. You likely have seen some TV shows about tornados. Gary England is interviewed all the time. We all feel like he is "our" weatherman. If the weather is stormy, Gary is on the air.
The biggest, baddest tornado of all time, with winds OVER 300 MPH hit south OKC. The houses that were in the middle were flat out gone. The houses just 2 blocks away were fine. My part of town did not even loose electricity. Compare that to a hurricane, earthquake, flood or blizzard. The entire area is just wiped out. When the tornado is approaching you have lots of time to prepare.

well i live in OK also and most of my cars wither dont have air or it doesnt work. Yeah in July and august it gets almost unbearable but its not that bad,. Of course comming from NY you might disagree.
And like what was said above the weahter forcasting is amazing around here. More money in radars and other stuff than the military. And there still always wrong LOL not really but the weahter can change around here in 2 mins. \
Tornado tracking has gotten alot better. just in my life time. I lived in Catoosa in 1992 when it got leveled by a F4 that we had no warning about, that will never happen again luckly but there still fast and unpredicatable the saftey level is 100 times better than 10 or even 5 years ago.
