How can I tell the difference between a elky that was painted two tone from the factory and one that wasn't? My '69 has the paint code 50 50 on the body tag so I'm assuming it came in one color, Dover white, all the way. My Elky has had a few repaints in the past and it looks like some prospective former owner added trim pieces that weren't supposed to be there. Also, is there a different wheel opening trim for two tone and single colored cars? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You've pretty much done that it looks like. Check the body plate it will have the paint codes and trim codes etc...

I believe that they only had one type of wheel opening molding but I can be wrong about that.

Evening Gudmundur. Looks like your correct. The two numbers to the left of the word "Paint" on your body number plate are the Upper and Lower body color. 50 is indeed Dover White.

There is also a Trim code, usually labeled "TR", if you can read that, I can look that up for you.

I've also seen only one type of wheel well mouldings. Two tone Elky's have the molding the splits the colors, but most I've seen are factory moldings there. I guess you could put some generic moldings there.

I have seen one rare two tone 3rd gen that had some unusual middle of the body moldings on them, kinda like the body moldings of the 4th gens. I have a pic of it, but was never able to find the owner to find out if it was factory. It looked very factory like.

Do you have any pics of your elky???

Thank you guys for responding. Unfortunately, I have no pics of my Elky but I do see the remains of some body side molding a la the 4th gens on the passenger side quarter panel, the door has already been replaced and it has two bullet holes in it, most likely not factory original :) . Having crunched some of the body tag numbers I found out that the car came with a blue interior, split bench, column shifted automatic, 350 engine, TH350 tranny, drum brakes front and rear. I haven't crawled under the car yet to read the axle code. I don't remember any other trim codes on the body tag, having to do with the outside trim, I'll have to check it again and write it down.
