ok so im about finished with my 383 stroker and im trying to decide between a edelbrock performer rpm air gap manifold/750 holley carb (vacum secondaries) or a t.p.i fuel injection system off of a 85-92 camaro or vette im not shure this is gonna be my daily driver but the tpi fuel injection system is more of a bolt on deal i dont think it will give me that much more fuel economy. The fuel injection makes 10% more power under 5,000 rpm but the carb makes more hp at the top end i dont know what do you guys think? (carb is also less of a pain in the ass to install)

I think it all depends on whether or not its going to be a daily driver. If it is then 10% on your fuel economy that could make a bigger difference then you think with the rising price of gas. The same goes for the carb if its not a daily driver, everyone wants as much horsepower as possible.

Having installed a TPI injection last June I can give you a few pros and cons. First TPI is a bit more involved to install, new wiring , fuel system and induction system. The cost will be about twice what the carb will cost you so add expense to the con list. For Pro start with much much more torque and low end performance, drivability is right there at the top, starts right up first time every time put it in gear and drive away, no playing with the throttle while the engine warms up. Curb appeal goes to the TPI few out there in El Caminos and they draw attention when you pop the hood. As for gas mileage you can get better mileage with the TPI depending on how you drive it but don't expect miracles. With the Quadra jet I could get 15 to 16 with the TPI I can get 17 to 19 in town, the problem is that it is so much fun to drive with the TPI that I have to concentrate on keeping off the gas at the light. If you are building a daily driver and have the resources I recommend the TPI. Think about how many new cars are built with a carburetor now. Most important learn all you can about fuel injection before you gather the parts mistakes can get expensive real fast. If you buy it piece by piece you don't want to get stuff you don't need. Harold pretty much nailed it. However you may get a good deal for a complete system on eBay. Carbs are fine, but having had a TPI, I wouldn't go back.
Take care.

Holley also builds the Projection fuel injection system----i'm putting one on my 406 in my elky and it uses a carb style intake and comes as a complete system---computer, injector, fuel pump and wiring harness hassle free and all the benefits of both worlds you can get it all the way up to a 950cfm four barrel....................Dan

If your 383 has a cast crank (you didn't specify), you shouldn't be spinning faster than 5000 RPM.
What's the cam duration? If it's a short duration cam (210 or less), then it won't have power above 5000RPM.
Complete TPI systems are available from Edelbrock and Accel, in addition to the previously mentioned Holley. Most of the aftermarket systems are good up to 6000 or 7000 RPM, due to their shorter runners and (in some cases) larger air handling abilities. They're also MUCH easier to tune than a GM system.
The air-gap intake will take a long time to warm up. For street driving, I'd drop the air-gap.

then I would recommend the projection--maybe the 730 cfm 4 barrel version.................Dan
