Just a tad bit larger then a 350, but I want one. http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/buy_engine.html?p_vid=5847&sid=1AlF2z1FkJub891-09105487925.4e

Ya think? ;)
I still think the ZZ4 (http://www.paceperformance.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=22962) is the best bang for the buck as far crate motors go. But others can be had for far less.

I agree with 87SS.
Not only is it only just over $10 per HP but take a look at that torque curve!!! That motor starts out producing over 300 ft/lbs at the bottom end. Wow!
For another $300 hook that beast up to a 2500 RPM stall converter and you've got some really decent bottom end.
New Guy: There will be other considerations when you go to replace your V6 with a V8. Exhaust. Motor mounts. Engine accessory brackets for the V8. If you had access to a similar [donor] car with a v8, it might save you some time with the change over.
Not sure about your transmission either. If it's a smaller/weaker one you may need to upgrade it [to a TH350, TH400, TH200-4R or a TH700-R4] or else that new 350 will destroy it in short order. Changing to a TH200 or TH700 will offer you "overdrive capability", but will require some other mods as well.
Good luck. And, congratulations on your new "love".

ZZ4 shortblock, GM fastburn heads, Hot Cam kit with 1.6 roller rockers...yeah baby! 8)
I'll throw my 2 cents behind the ZZ4. I replaced my L48 350 with a ZZ4 a couple of years ago into my 69 Camaro Z10. What a tremendous difference. The power band is very strong, in fact the torque is very similar to a 396/325 that a freind has in his original 68 SS Camaro.
My car is a 4 speed car and at highway speed, I never have to drop down a gear to pass. With a few minor modifications this is an easy 430hp engine.
I have retrofitted my original finned valve covers to the aluminum heads, painted the block Chevy orange. At a car show recently, I overheard a father discussing the engine with his teenage son. The father was schooling the son on the rarity of this aluminum head engine.
I just didn't have the heart to tell him it was really a rare, ZZ4.
Good luck,
Kris

Your budget will determine what crate engine to buy. How fast do you want to go? How much money do you have to spend?

C'MON KID GO FOR BROKE. I DID, A ZZ383 IS WORTH EVERY CENT IT COST, 5.000 + A GOOD TRANNY, INTAKE , CARB, $$$$$$, YOUR CAR IS ONLY AS FAST AS YOUR POCKET IS FAT, EVEN IF IT TAKES EVERY CENT YOU GOT. 425 HP, 460 TQ. THEM SOME BOLD NUMBERS. AFTER 500hp, IT'S ABOUT 75. TO 100. A HORSE. FORGED LOWER END, ROLLER CAM & ROCKERS, ALUMINUM HEADS, YOU CAN'T BUILD IT FOR THAT MONEY. BEEN THERE. DO THE MATH. LOTSA LUCK
