Howdy!
I'm Scot...and I'm an Elky-holic. I think. Maybe. I've always liked the looks of the Choo Choo 5th Gens. Found out today when I started doing research that they're not MCSS front ends, which is a bit of a bummer.
I'm graduating college soon and looking to make NJ my permanent residence. Along with that I hope to introduce a new car into my (already) 2 car family. Neither of the cars I already own are able to pass NJ inspection without more money than I've got available. A battered 90' Camry 5-spd I4 and an unrestored 75 Corvette Auto L48. The Camry needs close to 3500$ worth of work to pass inspection legally (the only way I'll consider) both in body and mechanicals. The Corvette is way too unreliable, and I'd rather restore it fully further down the road (she's safely garaged at my parent's house for now).
My hope was to find a GMC Caballero or El Camino around January 1 and start using that as my daily driver. I prefer low production numbers simply because rare makes me smile. So the Caballero is my first choice. Would a Choo Choo style front end from Honest Charley or Lauren Eng. fit on a Caba or are they Elky only? I know that rust is an issue, but I've never had to deal with it (the Corvette just has been ignored thus far). If I find a rust free Elky or Caba, am I going to have problems shortly down the road? The car will be driven daily no matter the weather. I believe that a car should be enjoyed in addition to being a work of art. That and I can only afford one car (plus just one parking spot).
