Has anyone tried to put a 87 Monte Carlo Dash, steering column and console into a 83 El Camino? What problems did you hit that you didn't anticipate?

Although I have not done this, I know they are the same and it will fit. You may have a problem with the wiring though, for example if you have cruise control in your car now, try and get a column that also has the cruise switch, or you'll also have to be swapping out the wiring that goes through the column of the one your swapping in, can be done, just adds more work.

The monte uses the exact same dash and steering column as a same year Elky.

The console is also the same. There was a change in 84-85. The 78-84 had a large box under the radio with a door on it connected to the console. The 85-88 only had a small change tray.

Everything will bolt right up. But, electrically you may have very minor differences like the rear window defroster switch. You'll have to fab some brackets for mounting the console or cut out the factory ones from the donor Monte. Are they both A/C dashes? Are the options on both columns the same? (delay wipers, cruise, etc...)
