Tommy,

I'm new to the site, and have a couple of questions. First of all I own a 1984 SS Elky that was (I was told by the first owneer) the 29th vehicle off the line at Choo Choo Customs when Chevrolet put together the agreement, that Choo Choo would do all the work converting the standard Elky's to SS versions.

I acquired the car in 1992, and made the trek to Chattanooga to get a bunch of parts for the first "quickie" redo. I just called today as I've decided to do a complete overhaul (224,000 miles) and Choo Choo is no longer in business. 8O

How, where do I come up with the items needed? I need carpeting, seat covers, door panels, bushings, etc., etc. I was able to locate an outfit in Indiana, who has purchased the Choo Choo name, but does not know where the Elky parts went to - if anywhere.

Any Help you or anyone can give, would most be most appreciated.

Welcome aboard Scott! I havn't been around the site much lately cause I am in the military & they have us real busy. Two sites we have done business with are Honest Charleys & my favorite , Dixie Monte Carlo Depot. Both can get you the parts you need. I got my new carpet from A1automotive.

Tommy,

Thanks much for the information. I am wondering, do you have a web address or City/State for the Dixie Monty location? I will get in touch with HC first thing in the morning.

Thank you again. BTW, Love your ride - just took a tour of your pictures - very, very nice. . . 8)

Sure, www.dixiemontecarlodepot.com . They are in Midland NC, which is 30 min to a hour southeast of Charlotte. Around 20 mins from my house in Indian Trail. Thanks for the compliments. I can't wait till I install a 7004r in it.

I did some extensive shopping at Dixie as well. They have got lots of stuff and are just up the road from Greenville. Buy local if you can!

And welcome!

I want to thank all for the information. I got a hold of HC, talked to Scott (another with a great name) and told him that Dan had given me that info. He said he would get a catalog in the mail immediately to me.

Then talked to Tom at Dixie Depot and he did the same. When he heard about my Chevelle, the conversation got WAY off track. Seems he just finished restoring a 1970 GTO Judge (real one) and immediately some guy wanted it worse than he did. He has some guy looking for a legit 1970 SS454 Chevelle - so if anyone out there has one, or knows of one that is for sale - give Tom at Dixie Depot a call - he has a friend with real $$MONEY$$ in hand, just itching to spend it. 8O

Thanks again Dan and Tommy for the help - I sincerely appreciate it.

Oh before I forget, JayAchTee, just where in the Upstate are you located? I'm just north of Spartanburg, about midle between Chesnee and Gaffney right off I85.

Jay,

Thank you. I just sent you a reply. It worked great - now I just have to get the correct paper (card stock) and I can start leaving them on peoples cars.

BTW I really like your car. I have a very close friend who has a 73 that is not an SS, but has the 454, ps, pdb, factory air, 4 speed, buckets, tilt, cruise (his dad added that) Cowl Induction Hood (with all the working parts) and 270 gears. His dad bought the car new (ordered it through the PX system). He lives in Germany, and cruises the Autobahns with it. No speed limits, and he told me, up until about the middle of 4th he can pull the BMW's and Mercedes. After that, they begin to crawl up his rear end. But he said they always have a bewildered look on their face as they go by, wondering what is under his hood.

You think we are hurting here in the US at gas prices (and we are) he's been paying over $5.00 a gallon for a long time. At those prices, I could afford to drive it, maybe 200 miles a year. No wonder he has a Volvo to drive daily.

Tommy,

Are you being transfered or just TDY? Any idea where you will be going? I just got back from there, had a small vacation. I was lucky enough to do all 4 years of high school and 2 years of college there in Heidelberg. I love the place - and for the most part, one of the last places that still like Americans.

Will you be taking your car? Or going to suffer with riding the strass to get from point A to B.

Wait, you told me you were in the NG, correct? Guess that would answer the TDY question. You going over to do manuevers or just to put in your 2 weeks?

Let me know where you will be - I'll bet, I know someone in the area. . . :-P

I am Active Duty Air National Guard. It is a standard support mission for around a month. I work in the engine shop on C-130H-3 aircraft, so we have to go were they are needed. I will be based at Ramstein AB. We hang out around K-town(don't ask me to spell it).

Awww, KTown - know it well. In fact stayed with some friends there on this last trip for a couple days. Some people I went to high school and a year of college with. I did 2 years of College at the Univ Of Maryland - Extension Branch in Heidelberg, before Uncle Sam asked me to join his little group. 8-)

Hope you have a safe - uneventful trip - and enjoy the food - That alone is worth the trip. . . 8)
