Welcome to ECC Fernando. A '77 SS for $1500? Sounds pretty good to me. Not sure how rare they are. Some other 4th gen members would be better able to answer that. I know around here in the North East, there aren't to many true SS. At least I haven't seen to many at shows.

Does yours have the factory swivel buckets? I like that look.

When you get it, take some pics and post it on ECC.

Welcome to ECC Fernando!

Where did you find your El Camino? What condition is it in? Post some pictures when you get it.

Another welcome there.

According to the numbers I have, they produced 5226 1977 El Camino's with the SS option.

Welcome to ECC! $1500? Not bad taking into consideration what kind of condition it's in. Keep in mind if it needs a lot of work, the 4th gen Elkys are hard to find parts for, new or used. Not impossible just hard. I'm not trying to discourage you, it's just something you should be aware of before you make your decision. If the car needs a lot of work, you might be better off looking for something in better shape.

Take the ride and laugh at the guy on the way out. I have a 76 and I love the truck  but then I love all my Elkys anyway. My 76 is the weekend beater. Lots of class in those trucks, I think.

Very true about parts being difficult but not impossible and more and more parts become available for the 4th Gens. Check the front end make sure all the tie rods and linkages etc.. are all in good shape. Compared to the Trucks and cars now days those handle like a Caddy. Steering is made for creature comforts not performance. Some Polygraphite bushings and larger dia. sway bars fix a lot of that. But the steering is so smooth that sometimes you can't tell if its bad just by the ride. Mine was so bad that it rattled if I jacked it up and shook the tire. It would cruise down the street effortlessly straight as an arrow even still.

Other than that it is almost the heaviest year for the Elkys, if I remember correctly. Check for rust around and in the Smuggler's Box and lid/bolts. Check for rust in the back floor board passenger side is generally the worst. Its a tank, frame wise, so it has a good foundation.

I knew of an owner of a 77 that put his up for auction and got $10,000.00 for the truck and it was not an SS. So its a good deal if it is in good shape. 77 models no longer require Smog Checks here in Tx.

Lets have the pictures!
