Go to Summit Raceing Equipment and buy a MSI distributer with HEI, they come as a package deal and that is about all you need other than plug wires and you will also need the electrical connector that plugs into the HEI unit on the dist. cap. Then you just need a wireing diagram.

I did mine for $70 at a junkyard. If you are upgrading from points, you might check out the other thread on this. For me, it was a very straightforward upgrade. Pulled the old distributor, dropped in the other one. We had to connect one wire and then adjust the timing. The timing got tricky because of the transmission dipstick was in the way, but some minor bending got that taken care of. I changed out the plugs and was done. Also, the junkyard HEI came with wires and coil. It was extremely inexpensive.

my 72 has HEI conversion also. Previous owner installed HEI distributor....ran vacuum line from carb to advance on distributor. The HEI cap has several wire connectors...inputs. One is for the main ignition lead in....this connects to the two stock white ignition wires.
Other HEI wires go from the cap to the lower distributor unit. These wires plug into the HEI cap with connector.
And....mine also has the Accel coil installed in place of the stock HEI coil.
Simple one wire hook up to the existing ignition wires, plus vacuum line.
