Sorry George, can't help you as I'm about 3000 miles away. But keep trying to find other members. Sometimes it just takes one or two of you guys to get people to come out of their shells.

Best of luck with your Elco.

I grew up in Castle Rock, exit 49 on I-5. Right now I'm in Moscow Idaho which is 8 miles east of Pullman, and about 80 south of Coeur d'Alene. Going to the University of Idaho and will graduate this fall with a bachelor's in Mecahnical Engineering, starting on my master in the spring. I thought there were a few people from the "Seattle" area. Most of the problem is that the northwest members on here are spread out so it gets hard to organize an event and be able to have everybody show up. Might want to check out maliburacing.com too, there are quite a few guys from british columbia on there. And a few from the "Seattle" area too.

Gents,

Thanks for the responses. Had noted only a few per month for Rgn 19.
Yup, know where Castle Rock is and Moscow, ID. Must be attn UI if at Moscow. Know many of the ROTC cadre there.

Rain is a factor up here. Was seriously wanting to test throttle cable adjustments I made on my 70 ElCo. Was previously getting only 3/4 throttle opening, made adjustments to correct this. Kinda slick outside for this testing throttle response.
My ElCo has a 1973 350 -4v, factory rated at a whopping 175 ponies and a numbing 230 lb ft of torque. She's already got headers, basically a junk dual 2.25" ext with (gag) glasspacks, and 2" pipes over the axle dumping under the rear bumper. At least on top are a few usable items; Holley 600, Edelbrock Performer intake, and an HEI. I discovered the timing was WAY TOO FAR ADVANCED which was easily corrected, I also swapped in some lighter adv ssprings in the distrib to get the ign in earlier. The body is pretty solid with the exception of the lower doors, I've got a few people who can fix this for me. Though most Chevelles came with 3.31:1 gears, I'm confident that I have 3.08s out back and posi. First gear easily reaches 55mph. Know this is slowing the car down but she's a nice-driving unit. I've only had it about 12 days, just sorting the car out. It was some kid's daily driver.

If I wanna go fast, I have a 68 Vette with a fairly slick new-age 427. Instead of rect port heads and mechanical lifter L-88 cam like I had back in the late 70s in my 68 Nova...this unit has open chamber heads with big valves for better flow, opval ports to keep the velocity up, and a hefty hydraulic cam. Has the wide-ratio M-20 gearbox with 2.52 1st gear and I put 3.33s out back, launches like a close-ratio car with 3.70s out back

Hey Guys,
Checking in from Bend. Haven't run across any other members from Central Oregon. There's plenty of El Caminos here in town, but haven't had a chance to talk to any of them. I work 2nd shift at the Plant, so I don't keep the same hours as "Normal"people.
I have a 5th gen Camino, and it's a work in progress.... Had a big fire back in July(gas line failure), and had to do major work and $$$ to put it back together. A set-back to say the least.I did the dash and seats before , so I still have the interior to finish. Plus the paint and body work. It's not pretty, but it runs better than before...When rebuilding, I went with Accel ign, installed Hedman headers, and have plans for changing heads, electric fan etc,etc...My carb Guy said I was running 225 or thereabouts at the rear wheels, so it's no great powerhouse.
It would be nice to have other El Camino owners to hang with, but don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon.....
Take care
Ron

Hello everybody, I just joined this group a few days ago. I live in Gresham, OR and own a '79 Cabalero which is a project car. Presently it's sitting in my shop with the motor being hauled out of it and a rebuilt '94 LT1 motor waiting to go in. hope to have it running in the next few weeks. Haven't seen too many people on here but I always check in to see if there is anything going on. I usually hang out on the ls1,lt1,efi section.

My elk is pretty much parked in the garage for the winter. Now i'm saving up for a beefed 200r4, fuel injection, bucket seats, and later on a procharger. Looks like i have a lot of saving to do 8O

The region is not dead. In all the time I spend talking about this site to my club or my club to this site there seems to be only a handfull of members that enjoy chatting here and spending time enjoying there elcaminos with other elcamino owners. I will mention this site once again in my newsletter article and see if maybe now that the weather has turned we can possibly get some new people involved here.
One of the last car events for us is coming up on Dec 3. It is the Santa Cruise in Stayton Or. After this most of the members of our local club put the cars away in tell spring, but some of us are willing to drive them to the meetings every month if the sun comes out.
Once the new year rolls around I will once again post a list of the events that members of The Chevelle and Elcamino Club of Oregon will be attending. Hopefully we can get together at one of these or perhaps some of you may be interested in joining a local club. Our web address is www.chevelles.net/oregon

Doug,

Greetings from Sunny Tacoma. Right.
Thanks for your response the other day.
I've been pretty active since joining in the Performance and Engine Mod forums. Getting a lotta responses there. Not much in the Rgn 19. Kinda figured there'd be more people in Tacoma and vicinity checking the 'local pages.'
My car is not down for the winter...I'm down!!!! Finishing a den remodel, spent a few days making the garage a suitable home for my toys and a usable shop. Lotta new shelving instead of cobbled-together crap. Preparing to get hot on the living room ceiling and such. ElCo will come in handy with all the debris from the projects.
Tonight after garage clean-up, worked on the noisey starter. This has been bugging me my whole 2 months of ownership. Removed all the starter shims....more was not better. I cocked the starter inward toward the flexplate gears with a washer between the starter and bottom of the block, snugged-up the bolts....good to go. Then took the ElCo for a 20-minute cruise as the streets were dry. The warmed-up 350 and freeway gears make for rather unimpressive results. May warm the 350 up a bit with a cam swap (current cam is a stocker, low mileage 73 350, w/headers, Performer Intake, 600 4v Holley). The TH350 is low mileage AAMCO rbld w/mild shift kit. This ElCo is a nice driver. If not swamped with BUILDER BOB or DAD duties, this would be the car to take on an outing. The 68 RatVette is not for the faint-hearted.

Glad to hear Rgn 19 is alive and well.

The ACES Northwest Regional show is held in August up in your area. Des Moines to be exact. It is one of the 4 Chevelle/Elcamino only shows that happen in the northwest every summer. The other 3 are May in Everett, June in Langly B.C. and July 23 in Canby Or. Once all the dates have been anounced I will post them here. This is by no means all of the shows I and my friends attend it is just the ones in our area that are only open to Chevelles and Elcaminos. These shows usually draw around 200 cars to each event. Hopefuly we will meet at one of these events or another gathering in the future.

I live in Vancouver and the member base is pretty weak. I know there must be a few. Sad thing is I now have my car ready but I am moving. I hope to end up in AZ. So the only thing weather wize is a sand storm. Nothing but good driving weather ahead. I hope to find a club in the city I end up in. The weather is one thing I will not miss. But all the green will be. I am looking forward to a darker skin color.

Seems a lot of the car guys up here in the northwest aren't computer as savvy as the rest of the country (isn't that weird?)

You might try and contact the guys in the yesterday's Chevelle/El Camino club, they are located down in the tacoma area. Their website is old and out of date : http://www.chevelles.net/yesterdays but i'm sure the contact info is still good. They put on a good show in the summer, and have a couple cool cruises.

Technically i'm still a member of the El Camino Classics club out of Everett, although i have not actually been to a meeting or anything in 2 years... They also do some fun cruises in the summer time.

Hey George... I'm still thinking REALLY hard about that 68 SS396 Elcamino and my other friends Black and Gold 69 Elky that are up for sale... Might be making a move after the 1st of Jan... we'll have to see what turns up. ;)

You'll have to keep you're eyes open for the Gold 69 i just sold... the guy who bought it lives down there in lakewood near you guys... said he was putting it right into a bodyshop and planned on repainting it the same colors- so we might see it around this summer. :-)

Merry Christmas!
Later-
Ben

Doug,

Thanks for the rough show dates and locations, I look fwd to the update.

Ben,

I'll be looking for that 69 ElCo. Lakewood, eh? Interesting, you BOUGHT it in LAKEWOOD! I hope the new owner address all the issues that we discussed.
Have ya moved on anything yet, Cutlass or ElCo?
Still sorting my car out, minor things now, some future stuff in the Engine forums.

mrmeno 78,
What do you mean by "where it is safe"? Been watching "COPS" again? I'd say the part of Lakewood nearest the freeway is not the ultimate. Probably 90% of the town is pretty darn nice to spectacular. Besides, I'm safe everywhere...am big, mean, and aggressive!!!! 20 years in the Army will make ya that way!!!
I used to recruit from the stn by Southcenter in the early 90s. I had Mt Rainier, Tyee, and Foster High School areas. How is Renton these days?
