I thought I would post this before someone bought one of these. My '84 is emissions controlled so i have to get a carb with emissions controls on it. My only option was Tomco rebuilt Rochester carbs. I had 3 before I found one that would work. My dad had said that if that happened one more time I was gonna get an Edelbrock and just blow off the emissions stuff. By the way, a Tomco cost around $400. An Edelbrock Performer carb cost around $200. Half the price for more power. I told you Tomco stinks.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with Tomco. I've never bought anything from them. I don't see how they could send you two bad ones. It's not rocket science to rebuild that carb.
...My only option was Tomco rebuilt Rochester carbs...
Why is that? I can think of at least two other companies who still sell rebuilt E4ME quadrajets. There is i-FIVE Components (http://www.i-5automotive.com/) and Holley. (http://www.holley.com/index.asp) Both of them sell them for about $300.

I have never heard of Tomco... probably for a good reason. Guess it is one of those off-brand companies. However it is very rare that I every buy something rebuilt. To tell you the truth, I believe that 90% of the time "rebuild" means just cleaning it up and makeing it look "new".
