i need help to determine if my elky is a true royal knight. i checked the cowl tag but the rpo wasn't listed. i cant get my build sheet out with out destroying it. can some one get a pic of an ss insturment panel? i read the article and it says that it has the ss designation on the insturment panel. also can some one take a close up of the black quarter window trim? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The gage package consisted of 3 1/2" (roughly) Speedometer ( 0 - 85 ) four center gages about 1 7/8ths" (remembering sizes) Gas, Water, Temp and Oil and than one 3 1/2" Clock / Tachometer or just clock. There was generally a Dash "El Camino SS" emblem just above the glove box, but I don't know for sure if that position changed through the 5th generation years.
If the trim around the back side windows is black not chrome / aluminum then your probably good to go but the proof is still in the RPO. Chevrolet was hot and cold with tracking option packages for statistics.

i need help to determine if my elky is a true royal knight...
The Royal Knight option (Z16) was just a sport decor package (decals) that cost $84. The Z16 Royal Knight option was only available along with the Z15 (Super Sport) option. You could not get Z16 if you didn't have Z15. If your Elky is a Royal Knight the Z16 and Z15 RPO will be located on the Body Number plate (Cowl Tag) under the hood on the top driver side of the firewall near the windshield wiper arm shaft.

dang it. just as i feared. i looked at the trim tag and neither RPO was present which means it is not a real royal knight. if i had known that before hand i wouldn't have bought the decals.

Go ahead and put them on. If you like them and you think they look nice what does it matter? It is just decorations, like a paint job. It is not what is on its hood that counts it is what is under the hood. 8)

they are on the car now. but when i started the project i really wanted to go custom and put on ground fx (which may just be coming in the future any how), cowl induction hood (was thinking about grafting the cowl induction part from a grand national or t type hood on to an elcamino hood), custom interior (may also be coming in future), and other stuff. im thinking about setting up a scooped hood for drags. one that i could put in place of the stock hood to take to the drags and then put the stock one on when im not at the drags.
