thanks for putting the pics up. in the article i read it said that the insturment panel had ss identification.

The Super Sport Black Knight/Royal Knight package consisted of a large front air dam; matching painted sport mirrors; special black paint treatment on quarter window trim; decal stripes accent the upper and lower side body panels; rally wheels; a massive bold hood decal and Black Knight (1978) or Royal Knight decals on the lower front fender panels and the tailgate and SS identification on the instrument panel. The Regular Production Option (RPO) for the Black/Royal Knight is Z16.

also did all of the ss insturment panels have the tach? where the tach is on yours mine has a clock.

I believe the Gauge package was optional on all 5th generation El Caminos, including the Super Sport and SS Black Knight/Royal Knight equipped models. It was RPO U14 (oil, coolant temperature, volts, tachometer) or RPO UF7 without the tachometer. The electric clock was RPO U35.

Any 5th generation (1978-82) owners out there have their build sheets? I'd like to file a couple of copies in my 5th gen files. I've got a number of 1984-87 build sheet or invoice copies, but I'd like some 1978-82 copies.

Thanks,
-dan

Hey Dan where are the build sheets usually located on early 5th gens? above the headliner? If I come across it i'll scan you a copy.

Neither the Z15 Super Sport option or the Z16 Black Knight/Royal Knight option included UF7, U14, or U35. They all had to be ordered seperatly.

UF7 was: Gage Package with Trip Odometer: Includes U35 Clock and voltmeter, temperature and oil pressure gages mounted on instrument panel (N/A U14 Gages)

U14 was: Instrumentation: SPECIAL. Includes U35 Clock, trip odometer, tachometer and voltmeter, temperature and oil pressure gages, (N/A UF7 Gages)

U35 was: Clock: QUARTZ ELECTRIC. Included with UF7 Gage Package or U14 Instrumentation

Camino81:
The build sheet has been found on top of the gas tank, under the headliner and under the passenger seat/carpet.

I'd like a copy.

Well the only place i have to look is under the headliner, i've remove the gas tank, no luck but i think its been replaced at one time, not under the carpet i recently removed it. so i guess if its not under the headliner then i guess its been lost somewhere along the way before i got to it.

I've pulled out four 5th gen El Camino headliners and I've never found it there.

I know my 83 parts car didn't have it under the headliner either, but i never looked under the carpet in it or on top of the gas tank in it.

My sheet was taped to the headliner. I have a pic of the guages after I installed white face stickers . It's in my album. Go to members cars- 5th gen- 5th page-78 Camino SS.
