Is there a way to replace my door hinge spring with a stronger one?
I seem to be having trouble with the detent on my 72 Elky door.
Would one from a Monte Carlo of the same year be stronger? The springs that I have on now are not that old.
Thanks 7t2ss

I can't recall a spring getting weak on a door hinge. What I believe has happened is that the roller pin, for the spring cam, has become worn and the pin (which is press fit/peened into place) has come part way out, and is being pushed sideways. Best bet is to just replace the hinge. In a pinch, I have heated the pin and hammered the roller pin back in place. If you go that route, be sure to pack th roller with grease.
Do a SEARCH to find more info on replacing the hinge. Hope this helps. Bob

I've wrestled a few in the hinge, but there is a tool available for that. When the hinge is out, I use the vise to squeeze the spring in place. Hard to describe the method......
