I need recommendations for speaker upgrades for my 86 El Camino. I'm not sure what's in there now, but I do know they're blown. Also what size are the front speakers? Are they tweeters or ? What about the rear? Any recommendations for rear speakers? I don't want to cut my doors so no door speakers. Thanks .

3.5" in the dash. Somone had put 4x10's behind the seats, although our "crucks" didn't come with rear speakers. Nice set of 6x9"s in boxes in the rear make it sound pretty good.

6x9s can usually sound very muddy behind speakers. If you are looking for clarity i would either get components with the woofers on the floor and the tweeters mounted somewhere behind your head. or you could Mount speakers on a home made wall over the smugglers compartment behind the seats, i did that and it took me 9 hours to bang out with great sound results.

for the rear a pair of 6x9s in in thier own boxes. the boxes would be very small.
for the front 5 1/4 compones in kick panels would sound fantastic.
if no kick panels buy a quality stock size.

Well if cutting and makeing new door pannels isn't your thing, I recommend checking out the "Pioneer" line of speakers. You can pretty much find them all you need at Walmart. Pioneer is one of few companies that I know of that actually make 3.5" speaker that will fit in the dash of an Elky. However you are able to squeeze in a 4", but nothing bigger than that. You have to be careful of what you buy, some speakers have a little too much "height" to them and end up pushing against the ventilation ducting under the dash. Here are some brand names that make a replacement that will fit with no problems, Pioneer, Infinity, and Realistic (Realistic only if you are very poor and on a budget... Radio Shack Brand. LOL).

or if you want a higher quality speaker you can cruise to best buy and pick up the 3.5" rockford fosgate speaker.. this is a higher quality speaker than the pioneers but sitll will not handle lots of bass.. i would reccomend crossing the front speakers over.. at best buy they also have "speaker savers" which will block all harmful bass from your small speakers and allow them to scream at the higher frequencys like they were meant to.

after you get the fronts taken care of.. you will be lacking mid bass. in that case i woudl also reccomend the 6x9 in boxes idea. might sound a little muffled on the treble, BUT yoru front speakers will pick that back up and the rears will be mostly for mids. if you put them in a box it wil really bring the midrange out.

if i had your elky thats what i woudl do.. instead i dont have front speakers in my dash (that one 4x10 that is useless).. i am just running two 6x9s behind the seat with a higher quality headunit and it sounds pretty decent.
soon ill be making myself some custom kickpanels to house two 6.5s.. but im on a very large budget and time frame ;)

For the longest I ran 2 three-way 6x9's and a 10 with separate amps.
Now I'm much happier with just my 2 6x9 in the rear and amped. I added 2 rockford fosgate 3.5 inch to the dash and they make all the difference. If I listened to a lot of rap or other bass intense genre I might put the 10 back in but this is what I've found sounds the best to me and highly recommend the rockfords I got at Best Buy for ~$70.

If your looking mor moderate clean bass you can also look into a bazooka tube. I ran a 10" tube behind the seat for a long time, 1 four channel amp. I set the rear channels to be bridged for the sub, and i had the front 2 channels for 6 * 9's behind the seat. I ran 3*1/2'S in the dash off the head unit.Just my 2 cent's, see ya, Kristopher.

GET MEMPHIS AUTOSOUND. I just got a stereo installed for christmas in my elky. Two 3 inchers in the dash in stock locations, then some 6by9s behid the curtain. It sounds awsome with the Panasonic head unit too
