Hi all , newbie here , I have been an old elky fan for more than 20 years but never had the means to aquire one and have missed a few 'good deals' in the past and I now have the opportunity to get a 68 but it has no frame. What I would like to know is what I would need to look for for a frame for this thing , does it need to be from a 68 , or what years would work ? Any info would be great , thanks in advance .

Any third generation El Camino/G.M.C. sprint (68 to 72), or a 68 to 72 chevelle wagon or 4-door frame will work. The four-door frame may not be boxed in the rear though. The chevelle 2-door frame is too short. I don't know if a '68 with no frame could be considered a "good deal" considering the amount of work involved in a frame installation. You would probably end up needing a complete donor/parts elky just for the extra parts the one you're considering buying would need.

By the time I'm finished with my restoration, I'll have a frame left over.
Let me know if you're interested in it.

Thanks for the info , and the offer lcamino , but I found out this weekend an old friend of mine has a 68 sitting in a yard here in town that he had made a deal on earlier in the year but just hasn't picked it up yet . He said he would sell it to me for what he paid . We are going to look at it on the weekend , he says it has no motor or tranny , fenders are poor , doors aren't all that great but the quarters seem pretty good , and the bed floor is also good . I have been waiting for about 15+ years to get my hands on one of these projects but never had the cash , still dont really have it but this time I am going to do whatever it takes , I've passed up too many deals over the years. I'll take some pictures when we go look.

Good luck.
I know how you feel. I've had to fix cars for over 40 years, now I have one I actually want to fix!
