: Brighter Tail lights
JRSoct24 12-09-2005, 06:43 AM Hey guys i have a trick you might like it makes your tail lights shine brighter.
IF you take supperglue and aluminum foil and glue it to the white part insde of the tail light it makes your tail lights shine a hell of alot brighter.
SHADOWHAWK 12-09-2005, 11:49 AM That's interesting. The problem is getting the two halves apart without breaking them.
86 choo-choo 12-10-2005, 09:43 PM I bought 4 of those L.E.D. lights ( I need that many with my set up)--''spendy''-- $9.95 EACH  but they do the job,and if you've ever seen them--on 18 wheelers-- they look cool when they go off/on(fast) I just put then in so I don't know how long they will last, but at that price it better be a long time 8-)
SHADOWHAWK 12-11-2005, 05:10 AM LED's are practically bullet proof. They are a solid-state type of electronic. They will last a good 100,000 plus hours! The only way to break them is by hooking them up to too much power or hitting them with a hammer.
I used sealed boat trailer lights for mine, works great

nowukno 12-12-2005, 03:05 PM Boat trailer lights????????????????? Y
Because they are sealed and I dont ever have to worry about condensation, plus the L.E.D's inside stay protected..
Mrapii 12-15-2005, 04:27 AM That black housing looks kinda..like..well boat trailer lites. Couldn't you chrome them or at least paint them? I don't want to hurt your feelings but they look especially dorky because the screws that attach them appear to be chromed, could you at least have painted the screw heads black? Again, I don't want to insult you but I think that when you post a pic of a mod that you made you are looking for feedback and I'm sorry if mine is negative. Your idea is good but needs a little refinement. I hope that you're not too mad at me.
PaPa Johns 77 12-15-2005, 08:38 AM 8) Kinda hard to chrome rubber! If the hole is the right size they are supposed to just push in the rubber holds them in place. Shouldn't have to use screws?

MADD at you!!!??,LOL Well at least I dont have to worry about you talking about me behind my back!! I can respect a guy that tells it like it is. I actually plan on going to the body shop and having the lights glassed in and painted. Thats just a temperary deal you see there. The Topic was "brighter tail lights",
not custom mods to brighter tail lights and thats what I wanted to show.
Thanks for your opinions though and No, Im not mad I appreciate all input and constructive criticism..

PaPa John The trim is plastic
jayachtee 12-15-2005, 08:44 PM I got an idea! How about 16 volts? That should get about 33% more out of those stock bulbs.
strkpr00 12-16-2005, 06:26 AM About those L.E.D. sealed units... they do crack and moisture will build up slowly killing each mini-lamp. I work for mass transit and we change 3-4 a day at $40. So look at the buses in your 'hood they get plenty of rough service.
79Elky 02-24-2006, 08:36 PM To the guy with the boat trailer lights: they likely won't pass vehicle inspection. You'll also likely be failed for not having reverse lights. So before you go spending money to the body shop to have those "glassed-in", maybe you'll want to check whether the present setup is legal.

Never had a vehicle inspection here in California that i know of.Not too worried about the reverse lights either,Dont spend that much time in reverse..

I dont really drive the car in the rain at all allthough I do wash it once a month.. the lights have been on for 2 and a half years know and not one crack or one sign of moisture..Maybe my car needs to see the same mileage and service as a bus to see what they really can hold up to.
bigorangedevil 03-03-2009, 11:06 PM Didnt want to spilt lights in to and put foil in them but i bought those red L.E.D. 1157?s at a swap meet thinking they were cool until people behind me started saying nice car oh i about hit you back there when you slowed down to turn! They worked but not bright enough so i switched back to reg.
Oh And My backup lights never worked! Just dont backup in front of people or at night Use Brake lights to see!
Reazon 03-20-2009, 12:26 AM surprised someone hasnt made something out of the led stripes and put them in the stock housings I would do it but it seems like sounds to easy.
350Caballero 05-14-2009, 07:15 AM I bought one of the under-tailgate light bars for the larger trucks and bolted it to my tonneau cover. Does everything but reverse and it's high enough for people to see too
ELBMINO 11-02-2009, 07:06 PM i got these also they seem to work great but they do burn out fast..
i want to know, how you did the foil mod. to your tail lights JRSoct24 ? sounds like i want to try it on a spare set of tail lights that i have. & poss. the L.E.D.s'.

Nice to see something different done with the rear end. Great license plate on there, too.
AZ CAMINO 11-03-2009, 07:36 AM So, is there a noticeable difference in switching to LED light bulbs? I wanted to know before I go spend 20 bucks in two light bulbs.
Tuggy24g 11-03-2009, 07:49 AM nowukno (http://elcaminocentral.com/member.php?u=2102) that is hot!!!!! Man that looks super cool. Second why would you want the lights in the back brighter? If they do there job and people can see them in the dark why brighter? Are we trying to blind the person behind you with bright lights? Just do not understand.
darbysan 11-03-2009, 10:07 AM I had been considering something like this flexible multifunction LED bar.
http://www.pickupspecialties.com/LED_light_bar/flexible_five_function_led_tailgate_light_bar.html
I got rear-ended in June, and just want something to make sure to get the point to the guy behind me, since our brake lights are so low. I was thinking about putting it above the rear window, but not sure I would like that much light up there. I now have a license plate frame that has an LED brake light/Plate light on the top.
I've also seen the license plate frames with back-up lights- a good alternative to none.
FIRST ELKY 4 ME 11-03-2009, 03:04 PM Can you post a link to that license plate frame? Thanks
OldChevysNeverDie 11-03-2009, 03:33 PM I split a set of 5th gen taillights with a Dremel and hand wired a bunch of LED's. They are not sequential like some but very bright. I made a test set of 4th Gen too. I plan to use silvered mylar as a reflecter.
darbysan 11-03-2009, 04:40 PM Can you post a link to that license platge frame? Thanks
here's one http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/License-Plate-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-HIGH-POWER-18W-p7516915.html.
YOu can do a google search on License Plate Backup Light. You will find more info there as well.
FIRST ELKY 4 ME 11-03-2009, 05:52 PM Thanks!
