I've searched ecc and google for a tonneau cover that will not only work on an 85 elky, but work with one that has bedrails also, like mine. I was hoping to avoid drilling and direct-to-the-body snaps. Anybody have a solution? Maybe I need trim shop to just make me one?

Evening Stan. I am looking for either a fiberglass lid or a tonneau cover myself. I'm trying to find something flush, but have not really found anything yet. I really didn't want to drill holes in the bed.

I did find something I might be trying and maybe you will like it also. It is a soft tonneau cover from Original Parts Group (http://www.originalpartsgroup.com). It is in there 2003 catalog on page 127. Pic of tonneau cover (http://www.originalpartsgroup.com/VCProdFrame3.asp?group=10331)

They have them for Elky's up to '77. Maybe you can call them and see if they have something for that sweet 85 of yours. If not, maybe you can bring the photo to the trim shop with the idea.

Also might try Lauren Engineering (http://www.laureneng.com). I've heard other 5th gen owners praise them.

JW, you're the one with the sweet elky, indeed. Thanks for the leads too.

I really like the look with the bedrails but never thought about its negatives, like not being able to install many types of bed covers, like the hard fiberglass one. With every positive there is a negative dammit! I'll have to check out your leads but we're leaving for an Escapee RV club rally in the morning. As Arnold would say, "I'll be baaaack!" in about one week.
